Title: Personal Computer World
Post by: Peter on July 21, 2009, 05:53:26 PM
I was surprised this week to get a letter informing me that Personal Computer World magazine is to cease publication as of the August edition.
I'd only been taking the mag this year on a 12 months subscription for £1.00, and found much of it over my head but I kept at it and learned a few things, mostly about my ignorance! :-[

The subscription is autmatically passed to Computeractive which I already take and find much easier to follow to be honest, (PCW was for grown ups I expect  :baby:) Still it's a bit sad for any magazine to fold like that.

Personal Computer World magazine: 1978-2009  (http://www.digitalretro.co.uk/Personal_Computer_World_magazine/PCW_obituary.htm)
An Obituary (from a former Editor's personal perspective)

Quote
Personal Computer World, Britain’s first and longest-running IT magazine, ceased publication on June 8th 2009 after 31 years in the business. Publisher Incisive Media cited “an unprecedented decline in advertising brought about by the ongoing recession, combined with diminishing newsstand sales”, and announced the August 2009 issue would be the last.

That is kinda sad.  :'(

>> The subscription is automatically passed to Computeractive

Will be getting a refund if you already subscribe to ComputerActive - not much point you getting the same mag x2
Wonder about those who only take Personal Computer World and have done for many years..   as CA is aimed more at the newcomer to the world of computing and as you say, far less technical.
