Hey guys, Hey Kitz!
I have still been working through trying to ID the modem by the modem identifyers, and one item I have been working through at the moment is the System Serial number.
Just as a headsup I have worked out that most serial numbers start with an identifyer from a DSL modem eg:
If a serial number starts with CP then this is a Thomson modem.
They use the following identifyers:
CP0910MT456
CP (meaning Thomson - don't ask me why)
09 (The year it was made)
10 (The week of the year it was made - obviously 1-52)
MT456... A random string of characters and numbers to uniquely identify the modem.
Here are some other patterns I have seen that I am working through.
Serial Details
350811024080 A 12 digit serial number
USB USB modem
FHK12452DDD0 A 12 digit serial number
dr29148005003 A 12 digit serial number
DR35156000378 A 12 digit serial number
CMC21H20 8 Digit Serial Number starting with C (eg CF, CMC, C0, CP[space])
CQB01G500138 A 12 digit serial number starting with C
CP0848TFZPN36315250 A 12 digit serial number starting with C
CF651G502457 modul A 12 digit serial number starting with C
FHK0926106Bn% 10 Digit serial number starting with FHK
There are a heap of other patterns I have seen and will continue to work out which modem applies to which serial number and share once I have more info..
The item which is still driving me batty is the presence of this text in so many of the modems identifyers, "Hdbgarea"
It appears in all random parts of the modem serial number identifyer.
Hope this is of interest,
Cheers,
ADSLgeek.

Hi Geek,
If you wish to investigate these matters might I suggest you Google the name ?
You will see that it leads to a secure Russian zyxel site and also some ADSL code descriptors:-

A while ago some of us tried to find out if there was a pattern to the Netgear serial Nos.
Unfortunately the list was so varied that you may find you have a hard time accurately IDing a particular router based on the serial No alone.
It would take a huge list of nos :/
There is some info here (http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/10755/NETGEAR-WGR614-Series-Serial-Numbers-Version-Cross-Reference/) for the WGR614s, and I think there was a pattern that the DG834v2 start with DG but after that it seemed to go to pot and many just started with 1
