Title: TalkTalk Question
Post by: UncleUB on May 13, 2009, 11:14:00 AM
Having just put my phone number and postcode into TT line checker it came back with the following info.

Quote
We are delighted to offer you our Essentials phone and broadband package. As you´re currently in an area which isn´t on the main TalkTalk network your Essentials will cost £21.49 per month (plus line rental). That´s still great value for the UK´s most flexible phone and broadband.

Yet the total price at the bottom of the page was £6.49 BB + £11.25 line rental and free connection ( usually £29.99) Total =!7.74.  :-\

I then had an online chat with a TT rep.

I was told to ignore the top figures and go on the £17.74 one.

Why is that I asked,my exchange is LLU.

The reply was no,its not due to be LLU till July...... :-X

I said TT had been LLU in my exchange for ages(I was on it 2 years ago)

I then used the Kitz exchange checker and found my exchange (Attercliffe) had been TT LLU since 18.11.06

She then said, perhaps they are doing an upgrade in the exchange and if I want to proceed I will need a Mac code.

Strange............... :-\

I wonder if this what she meant when she said July. ?

TalkTalk have been live at my exchange and offering 'non chareable' broadband here for about 2 years.  I know - cause I connected someones router for them on it.  I also helped them get out of the contract when the service was dire and he was getting just 400kbps....  despite the line previously getting 8Mbps from BTBroadband...

Fair enough

Why only 2Mb - this line has been capable of 8Mb for over 4 years.

Rubbish the technology is already there..  Ive seen their MSAN in the exchange with my own eyes well over a year ago.

TalkTalk Speed Boost is not available as your line speed is 8 Meg or less.

lmaoooooo....
I'm imagining the fact that I already have a full 24Mb capable line.

Hi all,

Have a look here to see if your exchange is full or not accepting customers for TalkTalk:-
http://www.talktalkmembers.com/content/view/109/149/

As for their Speed Boost, they claim it will only make a difference if you already sync at or close to the full 8128kbps.

Which I guess would be a help as it would tell them your line is not full of noise.

As for me going to talk talk, it now won't happen as my exchange is:-

BRIDGEND (SWBNP) |  Not accepting new customers | Unfortunately it is currently not possible to add new customers to this exchange. TalkTalk will update us when more information is available.

Hi jid, thanks for that linky.

Exchange is ok atm..  so I cant see why that would make any difference.

>> As for their Speed Boost, they claim it will only make a difference if you already sync at or close to the full 8128kbps.

...  and that exactly was the point.
Ive had a full 8Mb for over 4 years...  and also a full 24Mb sync with Be for over a year.. so why they are telling me my line speed is 8Mb or less Ive no idea.  From the post code they surely should be able to tell im less than a couple of hundred meters from the exchange

Just for amusement I tried my number - they estimate 12mbps, I get 21mbps at present.

Now I've got to get ready to fend off the unwanted sales call.

At least they offered you 12Mb...  which considering even though atm I have a fault my stats are better than yours. ???

>> Now I've got to get ready to fend off the unwanted sales call.

Yeah I noticed that too..  had one before last time I used their checker.

I have nothing but praise for TT prices and service, just goes to show how crap the likes of BT are.Basically swapping from BT to TT in my 2 x houses meant I was getting internet access for free as BT was wanting minimum £15 a month for 8gb dl per month.Only had about 3 days loss of service in 3 years in one house and nil days loss in 2 years in other.
