The following link provides interesting reading:-
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/3930-tiscali-users-left-screaming-by-lack-of-e-mail.html
which includes this statement:-
........ Tiscali failed to pay the renewal fee despite multiple warnings that the domain would expire and a grace period of 30 days. Following this the domain was terminated and registered by another registrant.
Kind regards,
Walter

Tiscali collapse could leave 1m without broadband
Are you one of the unlucky ( or lucky as the case may be) ones.

Auditor Ernst & Young has revealed that mounting debts have left the ISP very close to administration. The Carphone Warehouse has renewed its interest in acquiring the company, but many analysts believe a deal is unlikely to be hammered out and are predicting the collapse of the ISP, which would leave Tiscali's one million customers without internet access
That is quite an alarming article and warning bells should start ringing for their users. :'(

Particularly I suggest anybody or any associated firm on Tiscali LLU services.
In the case of Prodigy Internet:-
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/i/3921.html
BT managed to provide MACs for those wishing to migrate relatively painlessly.
Whilst I understand MACs aren't usually ncessary for LLU migrations I can't see how the physical equipment and wiring can be dealt with so easily.
Perhaps:-
a) another firm has to take over all the exchange equipment together with all the clients - always assuming that everybody agrees
b) BT O will be faced with a monumental task of unwiring everybody rapidly and probably re-connecting to BT W's DSLAMs / MSANs - this time assuming that BT have sufficient capacity for a major migration.
c) BT W has to "compulsary purchase" all Tiscali equipment, re-engineer the equipment to BT standards, add sufficient pipes and provide a temporary service until such time as the clients either accept a BT R offering or migrate elsewhere.
All the above seem a rather nasty nightmare especially for BT who will, in all probability, be left holding the baby with insufficient nappies if you'll pardon the metaphore.
Should this happen Ofcom might well have a field day with competition rules, none of which I doubt have been designed for this scenario.
Kind regards,
Walter

Simple Answer...
They are Cheap & a lot of people believe their Adverts....
Most believe that how Tiscali works is simply how the Internet is....
You`ve only got to look at their forums to see how many customers have problems & just say thanks for a reply to their problems being looked into (for months on end).
The Internet isn`t yet a Service, like Electricity, Gas, Water etc or most people don`t see it as such, its getting there, for me its a service I need, not essential, but a service & important to me.

Thats one hell of at drop... and its hard to believe that once upon a time those same shares were worth €52.00..
and even in Jan this year €0.7625 or a year ago €2.7275
