Just noticed the new BBC weather site (Beta version).

Thanks UncleUB - hadn't spotted that before.  It looks quite interesting. At least you don't get the weather man standing between you and the maps as you do on TV (if you live on the West Coast!) and you don't get the exaggerated hype from them either which they all seem to want to give since the gales of 1987!  :-X

I was working in London at the time of the 1987 gales.We left London on the Thursday evening to come home for the weekend.The gales struck about midnight and caused devastation in London and surrounding area and the southeast.
We had nothing up north,when we returned monday morning I remember seeing massive oak trees uprooted in Hyde park and lots of damage everywhere.
The weather forecast for that was totally wrong if I remember.
