Title: Site downtime Sat 31st Jan @ 11 pm +
Post by: kitz on January 30, 2009, 11:42:54 AM
Heads up

The site will experience some downtime tonight after 9pm for maintenance.

Nothing of major concern - Its renewal time and I'm moving over to a new account that will be more suitable for the site requirements.
Big thanks to the guys at Vidahost for their help and support in arranging something to meet my needs... and even offering to do all the work for me tonight.

[edited to change date and time]

They didnt get chance to do it last night - or rather it was late when they tried to contact me and I'd already gone to bed by 2am when they contacted me to ask if to go ahead at that time.

We're currently arranging another time for tonight - details of which I'll post up when we can arrange a mutual time.

PS

Ive got quite a few PMs over the past day or so about a few things.
Can I just point out that I am aware of them all,  but I really do need to get something sorted for the main site  today... and I will respond ASAP.

Rescheduled for sometime shortly after 11pm tonight.
Downtime should be minimal whilst all the files are transferred over  :fingers:

Still working on it atm Yorkie.

Trying to make sure the main site is up and running.  DNS is still propogating  (http://webhosting.devshed.com/c/a/Web-Hosting-Articles/What-is-DNS-propagation-and-why-does-it-take-so-long/)for some people.
Touch wood everything is going ok for the main site.

Hopefully will get the directory structure sorted for the forum part as soon as we can.

Thanks

Some of the delay last night was due to DNS propogation during which time I myself couldnt even access the forum to get to the control panel for a short while because of DNS.  The new account has a slightly different layout/file structure, so there were a few things that I had to move/edit last night before everything was up and running properly.

When I went to bed this am there was still a few minor things that needed doing so Ive just spent a while doing those.
To ensure that things got moving asap last night we've temp left the databases pointing to the old server site and whilst Ive now just moved the main site databases over - I still need to do the forum one, but I will need to close the forums whilst I do that -  so I'll wait until late tonight.

Why do these things always take longer than expected lol.

@ OF
I did get your mail thanks :)...  but during the t/fr even my mail was down for a short time until I reconfigured that too.

It's a conspiracy, it's all designed to stop you from going out at night on the pop and drowning your body in natures nectar.  :drunk:

Last of the databases were all transferred in the wee-small hours this morning, so if any of you saw the forum closed or weird error messages last night that was me.

I'm also tweaking some site pages that are database related over today and possibly over the next few days, so if you do very briefly see strange messages - Im the guilty party.
