Thought I'd give you advanced warning that the site is currently in progress of being transferred over to a new host.
Most of the stuff is going on behind the scenes.. but there will be a period of time when certain sections of the site could be unavailable.
The hardest thing will be DNS propogation which either I nor my web hosts have much control over.
I do not expect this to have any impact on the main site which will run on both servers for a period of time.
However it will impact on the forums as obviously I cant have the 2 databases running at the same time.
Therefore there will be a period where I will have to close the forums until DNS has been fully propogated.
I dont expect to start DNS changes for at least the next few days - (more likely middle of next week) as I want to make sure everything is up and running on the new site correctly first.
I will give advance warning nearer the time of whats going on when.

Update - 15th Feb
The main site is ready to go,
- as is the forum aside from the database, which I cant do until I shut the forum down on this server.
I'll probably be giving this a dry run later on this evening (15th Feb), so there will likely be times when the forum wont be accessible.
If all goes well and time is ok.. then I may well bite the bull by the horns and set off the DNS changes tonight.
There shouldn't be any problems with the main site, which is already up and running on the new server.
However the forum will be getting a new url in a much nicer (and more correct) format of http://forum.kitz.co.uk
Chris has kindly offered to be on hand tonight to lessen the impact by setting up the ccgi > forum redirects..
so if time allows... it would be easier if I can get it all done at once whilst he's free to help.

Well if youre seeing this obviously were live.. and have been for the past couple of hours. :-X
Everything seemed to go pretty smoothly... DNS started to propogate within about 1/2 an hour so all credit to Vidahost.
Seems like most ISPs are now beginning to catch up on the new servers... although it could take up to 48 hours for everything to resolve correctly.
Thanks chris for your help with doing the htaccess files whilst I did database stuff - really appreciated and saved me a lot of hassle.

Small? glitch here. I can log on to the forum from my BT broadband, obviously, or you wouldn't see this. My Plusnet connection still gives the "DNS records not completed" message.
-
You've just gotta wait for Plusnet to catch up mate - DNS propagation can take anywhere up to 48 hours. One thing you could try is using a 3rd party DNS service (OpenDNS for example) to see if theat helps...

Unfortunately PlusNet customers will probably be about the last to catch up on DNS... simply because thats where it was last hosted.
I kinda "overlapped" for a while to try and ensure the main site had no downtime.... and until about 7.30am this morning PN thought they still held the hosting /records.
Therefore any PN customers using PN DNS Servers would have been directed to the old site. PN released the "old site" at about 8am.. so PN customers should start filtering to the new site this morning.
Anyone outside of PN should have started being directed to Vidahost from about 2am last nite.

It's working now. ;D ;D ;D

good :)

okies seems like everything went ok.
Would appreciate any comments or anything from you guys if theres any errors that may occur because of the switch over.. such old broken links etc.
Hopefully Ive caught them all..
and the htaccess that chris did will catch any redirects.
lol my traffic ranking stats took a bit of a dive during the change over - been averaging 80,000k this month.
Yesterday it wasnt even ranked :'(
