Title: My family on the telly
Post by: roseway on January 29, 2007, 07:12:50 PM
Tomorrow (Tuesday 30th Jan) at 11:30 am on BBC1, my daughter and family are the 'stars' in a dreadful TV reality program called 'Car Booty'. Before you ask, yes the whole thing was staged from beginning to end - every word spoken, every movement made, was scripted and rehearsed. Modern-day TV has redefined the meaning of the word 'reality'.

(Of course, I'm not trying to get one up on Chris, who was recently on the steam wireless :) )

I'll see if they know of any online recording. Otherwise, I've got a recording on the PC in .m2t format if you can handle that. It's a 2GB file. I could probably upload it overnight to my ISP web space, or  I could write it to a DVD and send it to you.

2GB is ok with me if it is with you.  :)
PM me the details when your ready  - that would be great :)

Reason I didnt get to see it - ask kimi - mums taxis are wonderful things arent they :(

Oh yes, I well remember being an unpaid taxi service when Vanessa (my daughter) was a teenager. And somehow her friends' parents seemed to be able to get out of it. I never worked out how they did it.

There's a slight problem with the file - it's too big. My ISP webspace is only 1 GB, and I can't find a file hosting service that will take files bigger than 1 GB, apart from expensive 'pro' services. Have you got any ideas?

Sorry OF, I'm a bit slow on the uptake today. What 'Sworn to secrecy bit'?

Kitz, you can relax. I've been out most of the day, and in any event browsing and email has hardly been affected by the FTP upload. You're definitely not a PITA. :) Chris, you should be ashamed of yourself. :P

Got it thanks eric.
Thanks also to havelock for the loan of the space

Left it downloading this afty and just got around to watching it.

Good prog - love the way that Vanessa jumped up in the air then said "whats wrong with my clothes" - classic.

Hope the kids enjoyed their disney break too.

:)

Risking OF's wrath again ( :) ), I'm afraid that programmes like this one are smoke and mirrors. There wasn't really any trip to Disneyland, or any London shopping trip. But they all had fun making the programme, and are enjoying their local celebrity status.

:(  who dreamed that gem up then?

The TV people. They needed an objective with more sparkle then just earning a bit of cash to pay the bills.

>> The TV people

yeah I guessed as much
hmmm  thats cool.... On the tele just to look good.

"Hey kids you're going to disney"..  but in reality they dont.

The TV people arent around when the kids get asked by other kids either, nor are they the ones that have to deal with it.

/end sarcasm (sorry)

Just hope they understood it was all play acting eric and that they are ok about it.
Bonny pair of decent kids and I'd hate for them to be disappointed I guess.

See what you mean about smoke and mirrors now.

Eric

Not from me, I have was around the TV & Media long enough to know what goes on, and that you only actually believe when told directly by the people concerned.

Now, where is my long stick (for prodding the audience) Applause board (to tell you when to Applaud) etc etc.
TOPs, audiences of only 30 people made to look like 130, even changing cloths to look like a different audience.

But to publicly offer holidays that do not exist, thats a bit below the belt.

No wasnt quite like that.. sorry if I led you to believe otherwise.
It was the supposed reason why the "Booty" was being held to raise funds for.
Wouldnt have been too bad if the presenters didnt keep mentioning it - and "How it was already paid for" and they were going any how.

I think I was just a bit shocked at them having to mention it or even the more smoke and mirrors of the london shopping trip.
If they had to think of a reason a bit more exciting than "pay bills", why not just say the london trip?

Anyhow done let the "minor" detail put you off.. it was a good show and I actually enjoyed watching it.
This is the profs "claim to fame" spot and  it was nice to see a decent normal family on there...
(unlike a couple of the more money grabbing shows Ive seen where imho things were over priced.)*

Still think the clothes quote was a classic
Please , please, dont tell me the jump for joy and Vanessa's sudden "whats up with my clothes" was set up too.

*Says nothing about ?20 for Vegas frame  ;)

You're spot-on Kitz. I too was a bit perturbed about how the kids would be affected, but Vanessa explained in advance to them that it was all play-acting, and they did get some smaller rewards. I think the "What's wrong with my clothes?" bit probably was spontaneous. :)

Now I'm thinking about robbing a bank so that I can pay for them really to go to Disneyland.

You know what?
At 07:35 this morning I was sitting there with nothing else to do  and suddenly I thought about this and remembered that I had typed "Prizes" when it/they are obviously not prizes, they are as you say, what the contestants want to do with the money from the sales.
(Honest that is no word of a lie) I promise.

But as was said they all had a good days bit of fun, and will recant the experience for a long time to come.
long time to come. long time to come.
