Title: No Celebrations?
Post by: Accordion on December 31, 2006, 07:31:49 PM
Bit quiet regarding the new year isn't it?

Fireworks going off even as we speak, probably getting in before the gales and torrential rain arrive.

New year's eve is the only night that I go to bed before midnight, but then I'm a miserable old g*t.

Happy new year to all and your cats.

The only fireworks here is thunder & lightning to go with the howling wind & lashing rain.

Nevertheless, I wish everyone a happy & prosperous 2007.

lmao...  yeah right...  till the next time  :-X

>> a great big thumping noise coming from my head:

I remained quite sober...   I was due to go stay at a friends for the new year..  but the weather put the dampers on it.
A 2.5 hour drive over the pennines in gale force winds and rain wasnt really advisable - not when my car was rocking before I even got anywhere near the tops. :/
Bit scarey and Im afraid I chickened out :(

I cant remember the exact figure now - maybe chris can - cause it was him that first told me that the bbc weather had reported 72mph winds in that region ?.

That weather reminds me of the time I was hitch-hiking back from Glasgow and could not get a lift, although that was back in the early 70s when it was the done thing and never any bother.

My friend and I ended up "WALKING" the whole length in the dead of night, scary or what!

No, but I have to admit it did seem like that at the time.

We ended-up walking over Shap.
"If memory serves me right" it was from Penrith to Carlyle.

Kitz

Sorry but I accidently clicked your bookmark so unfortunately I read this thread. Without you lot it would be pretty dull, get a life Kitz even with that lot it's still pretty dull ::)

Joking over and as a very infrequent visitor I shouldn't stir the masses, sic, but for a new year greetings thread there's not a lot messages. :P

Kitz I only came here to find out your real name, which I'm sure is here somewhere, so save me more searching and pm it to me in that "other place"

Some of the messages here are very funny like yours where you said you ditched the New Years Eve party because of 72mph gales. Can your car not go faster than 72 mph and outrun them?

Peter :-*

been at the ovaltine again Peter? ;)
Just for those remarks Im gonna make you work and have to search for the info you want :P

>> the New Years Eve party because of 72mph gales. Can your car not go faster than 72 mph and outrun them?

Nope..  I only have a lil corsa..  and 72mph is faster than the legal speed limit.  >:D

I was supposed to be travelling over the pennines where weather can and does quite often close the road in winter. Its not pleasant going over the tops when its mildly windy - nvm in severe gales.

Now since my car was getting rocked around before Id even got out of Lancs, and visibility on the Motorway wasnt too good because of rain & spray.. I seriously didnt fancy continuing the journey for another 2.5 hours.

Seems I probably did the right thing because the news the next day was full of reports of damage

weather report said

Quote
Manchester was protected from the worst of the weather, but in other areas - particularly north of the city - winds gusted at up to 70mph during the weekend.

A Manchester Met Office spokesman said: "It was certainly wild. Gale force is 49mph, and we saw gusts much greater than that right across the area.

"Severe weather warnings were issued for almost every part of the British Isles as high winds caused disruption, particularly in hilly and exposed areas."

Bear in mind 70mph around Manchester - not at the top of the pennines.
So I went to the local instead.

What do you mean her daughter? It seems to imply Kitz is female. Well I never but your mum obviously did at least once  :o

You are obviously very young if XP means especially because you followed it with a capital letter. ::)

Don't worry about Phil's message he is just reliving his fairground days and that's really testing his memory ;D
