Post by: tickmike on December 30, 2006, 03:27:50 PM
Seasonal Greetings.

My Daughter (13) has had an MP3 player for xmas,

1, Is there a good Free Source of downloadable tunes ?. ...Not file sharing please..

2, On the box it says "your operating system must be Fat 16/32 "     I use NTFS !   Has anyone come across this before or will it work ok ?.

Michael.

But your daughter is a teenager, tickmike; didn't you know that they know everything?

Well my two certainly did, although it funny how the pooter only went buggerup when they were using it!

I'm an ancient, so of no use whatever when it comes to these new-fangled devices, but I'm sure somebody clever will be along soon.

Cant help with the downloadables Im afraid...

As regards to the file system..  from what I can make out from a quick google... if you want to use it with XP machines (NTFS) then format the MP3 player for FAT (16)

I?ve got Windows XP and have just formated my MP3 player in FAT32, but I get an error.
To work in Windows XP, format your MP3 player as a FAT16, rather than a FAT32. If you have formatted it in FAT32, simply reformat but select FAT16.

Me neither, although the only source I can think of is "iTunes"

I just decided to check my pen drive (because that plays-up quite often, but the only options Windows XP gives me is either FAT or FAT 32, "no FAT 16"

So is FAT 16 still available to Michael?

I suspect that 'FAT' is FAT16.

I suppose as you are not getting driven mad by the children and their music, they are now driving you even madder to get the MP3 player replaced.

Can't win for losing, Hope you have a happier new year.

Hopefully, you're daughter likes rock music, as purevolume.com has plenty of free snd legal downloads, but mostly by rock artists. However, there are some others on there, you ust have to spend a while.

MySpace Music soemtimes has downloadable MP3s for free (& again, legal) but like PV, You have to spend ages searching for the artists page.
