Title: O2 & Telnet
Post by: Belz on October 17, 2008, 09:48:11 AM
I have just migrated to o2 and I can say it was very simple.  I am on XP Prof, using Netgear DG834G router and all I needed to do was enter 3 different values and I was on.

Speeds are good and line is stable.

I am trying to use Telnet for router stats but cannot get in.  I do go into the debug page but this does not help.  I am also trying the RouterStats program, but it will not connect to "server".

What am I doing wrong?

Will I be unable to use Telnet on o2?

Thanks in advance

To answer the last question first, it makes no difference what ISP you are using. Telnet is between you and the router alone.

Router stats are of course available from the web interface, so you don't need telnet to get that information. You do need telnet if you want to find the interleaving status. How you do this depends on the version of the DG834, as the latest version (V4) has a different chipset with different telnet commands. Details are here (http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/netgeardg834_interleaving.htm) with the V4 instructions at the bottom of the page.

I believe that the DG934G is just a repackaged DG834G with locked firmware. Instructions for replacing the firmware with standard Netgear firmware are here. (http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/skyDG934.htm) I would have thought that the normal Routerstats version would support the 934 but I don't know for certain.
