Currently I'm with BT on Option 1.
I live over 2.5 miles from the exchange.
I used to get around 454kbps but now I can't get over 250kbps and that's on a good day.
If I'm stuck with such slow speeds where can I find someone cheaper than BT please?
I've looked on the list and all are listed Not Available here, or is there something that I'm not understanding here?

Hi Angela, and welcom to the forums.
I like yourself are with BT on option1 and also on a very long line.The problem is no matter who you go with will not alter your speeds.I have just renewed my contract with BT,I was paying £17.99 on an 18 month contract,they offered me £2 discount and I said no.When I phoned for my MAC code last week they asked me why I was leaving and I said price.They then offered me option 1 @ £9.49 a month.
Can you post your router stats on here for someone more knowledgable than me to have a look at.

Hi Angela and welcome.
I think that the confusion is regarding what is called LLU (Local Loop Unbundling). A number of telecom companies have paid to install their own equipment in BT exchanges, and where these are available they can offer generally lower price deals. If you go to this page (http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php) and enter your phone number and postcode you will see which if any are available to you.
If, as seems to be the case, none of them are, then your options are limited to an ISP which delivers its service over the regular BT equipment. This won't change your speed, but you might get a lower price. There are lots of these, and these pages (http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/choose_isp.htm) may help you decide, but if you want more explanation please feel free to ask. :)
As UncleUB said, a better option might be to see what can be done to improve your connection, and your line stats would be a good start.

As the others have mentioned, just because you are on a BT exchange, doesnt just limit you to BTBroadband. :)
If you put your details in the checker it should say something like
Available ISPs
Although your exchange is BT owned, this does not limit you to just BT Broadband and a vast range of ISPs are able to supply you with adsl.
Available ISPs are too numerous to list, but some examples would be: Zen, Plusnet, IDNet, Enta, etc
Other Broadband Technology & LLU Providers
The vast majority of UK ISPs use BTs exchange equipment to supply their broadband, for those ISPs you should use the information on the left.
The following is a list of providers offering an alternative service to BT Wholesale based broadband in your area.
At the risk of repeating the others if you can also provide your linestats, then we may be able to give your line a "health check" to see if its capable of higher speeds.

I have been on to the page you suggested, unfortunately I got a new router yesterday and it is a Belkin F5D7632-4
I have to say that when doing line stats checks with this router I have been getting 300+kbps download, which is a lot better than those for my BT Voyager 220V previously.
I'm not sure if I followed the link properly, I got a bit confused as I couldn't see the prompt when I got logged into Belkin! Do these stats look like you would expect from my original posting please?

I'm afraid that what you posted didn't give the needed information. What's needed is the attenuation and noise margin, and I believe that you can get this by typing this address into your browser: http://192.168.2.1/adsl_status_main.stm (or just click on it here).
Regarding LLU, you're right - there are no LLU ISPs in your exchange. But you can still choose from one of the many ISPs who deliver their service over the BT network. This page (http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/ISP_ratings.php) lists the customer ratings for ISPs as provided by users of Kitz' site, and one near the top of that list should be expected to give good service. If low cost is important, Newnet seems to be well rated and low cost.
However, having seen your last posting, perhaps you've found a happy choice of router for your connection. :)
It might still be worth having a look at the stats to see if it can be improved further.

Am I doing something wrong here?

It's more likely that my suggestion wasn't right. :)

im not sure if this will help but: Try typing in your default gateway address.
Start >>
My Computer >>
My network connections >>
Right Click network connection then click properties >>
I get lost here but there should be a status button click that >>
It should now should connection details look for default gateway and copy the number beginning with 192.168 and paste into a web browser.
Log into your router if it asks for a password try user : admin password : admin . Then if i'm right there should be an advanced tab click it and if i'm right again there should be a tab saying ADSL Connection click that then there should be connection details.
or you could try DMT. Google search Dsl Modem Tools

Ive heard some people have difficulties with the belkin stats.
First of all you must already be logged into the router web interface at 192.168.2.1
Once logged in then try using the url http://192.168.2.1/ADSL_status_main.stm
Or try
http://192.168.2.1/adsl_status.stm

When you try http://192.168.2.1, you should see a sign on page. Use Admin for the userid but leave the Password field blank (if there is anything showing then delete it) then press "Enter". You should then see a full screen of data.
It sounds from your previous posts that it's unlikely you have changed any of the default sign on details but if you still fail to reach the data page then you will need to reset the router to the default settings.
