How to Change the Keyboard settings to English in XP

NB: Although Vista is much the same, some of the tabs are labelled slightly different.

Go to:
Control Panel and select Regional & Language Options.

On the "Regional Options" tab, use the drop-down menu to select "English (United Kingdom)".

Next go to the "Languages" tab and click "Details" then again from the drop-down menu ensure "English (United Kingdom)" is set as the default language.
All and any other keyboard settings in the box below can be safely removed.

Don't forget to hit "Apply" and also be prepared to re-start your PC if asked.

Should you ever want to re-select another keyboard setting, then do exactly the same as you have just done.
