Not looked at it yet so cannot comment.
As a beta release, try it at your own risk.

The launch of a beta version of Chrome on Tuesday evening (UK time) will be Google's latest assault on Microsoft's dominance of the PC business.

I suggest that anyone considering using Chrome should think twice, because of a serious intellectual property issue. (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/09/03/google_chrome_eula_sucks/)

[Edit] Maybe a storm in a teacup. Clause 11.1 of the EULA has now been rewritten as follows:

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services."

WTH

Quote
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights that you already hold in Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content, you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. This licence is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.
So thats anything and everything you do, see, read or view via the browser grants them future power to do what ever they like with the content.

Then it goes on with 11.4 giving them the authority even if the content isnt the user... OMG does that mean over time that google will have rights over the content of the whole internet.

Wow - nice try google,
I was only discussing fairly recently with someone else about how google seem to be wanting to take over the internet, with things like the Google Analytics (http://www.google.com/analytics/) and a few other apps that seem to be sneaking in and we were talking about where they were going.  At one point the conversation compared with M$ and the conclusion was it was actually worse.

This would be the icing on the cake for them if they manage to get away with it.

Are google getting too big?

Further to this I continued thinking just what pies google had their fingers in

Google Desktop
Gmail
Google Analytics (which I wont use cause a had a few doubts about the tracking)
Google Calendar
Google News
Google Talk
Google Groups (Usenet reader)
Google's Writely (Word Processor)
Google Spreadsheets
Google Maps
Google Earth
Google Ads
Google Picasa (Web Album)
Google Sketchup ( 3D Modelling/Drawing Tool)
Google own YouTube

Actually better still - just thought - look here for some more (http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en/options/)

Just think of all the things you do using some sort of google association, I think to me the gravest concern is  Gmail and possibily desktop and just what control they would have with content because aside from Desktop its all online.

Time for the legal eagles to kick in me thinks and put a stop to this otherwise its going to give Google the power to do what the heck they like with anything you do.

I absolutely agree with you. Google is beginning to frighten me, and I'm certainly thinking very hard about my use of GMail.

It can't handle Java so I have uninstalled it.

Thought that it was just me - Jave didn't work with Chrome for me either. It kept wanting to install it when I already had it.
Found that it was very fast but have uninstalled - missing my FF add-ons too much.
Also concerned about the stored information side of things but not sure if this is anything to be really worried about.

I agree Poppy, FF has so many useful add-ons, and it's such a bloody good browser, it's going to take something a bit special to prise me away from by beloved Firefox.  But having said that, I've not felt inclined to trial Chrome yet.

AFAIK there shouldnt be anything sending anything back from the forum.

The only thing I can think of is that I display google ads.  I was actually going to stop using them since they weren't actually earning much.  - I'm talking pennies.  But shortly after I did have a  bit of a pickup, and since it paid for a few weeks hosting I left them.
