Title: Updated - adsl checker
Post by: kitz on September 01, 2008, 07:57:21 AM
The adsl line checker (http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php) has had a major overhaul.

There may not be much difference on the face of it..  but theres several bits of new info that it now gives out, such as

~ it should say when certain LLU provision is running short at the exchange.
~ more wireless providers
~ lil bit more info about the line check compatability
~ Separate WBC enablement date.
~ Slight behaviour difference whilst waiting for result to return.
~ estimated WBC speed from the BT database.

Unfortunately though WBC info is a bit sparce atm for some exchanges, as WBC and 21CN PSTN enablement dates are under review, therefore on many exchanges it will return "No info" but still show amber (due to a previous date being set).. and/or "Not available" for WBC

Not much I can do about that right now though since even the BT official switched-on (http://www.switchedonuk.org/home/) site is stating "areas of the country are being reviewed between BT and other communications providers. This lookup tool is currently unavailable and will be updated as soon as possible"
Hopefully though as soon as the info is available again from BTw it should automatically start working again.

All I can really say is that it works. As I'm out in the sticks there's no LLU, wireless or 21CN information available, so I can't check those items.

Thanks eric.

It seems to be working ok - Ive got a couple of test no's  I use such as my bro's in Manchester...  theres a few of which do have WBC dates and it seems to be working ok touch wood.

I'm just waiting for Chris's reaction when he tries it though and see's what the BTw database has his line down as for WBC linespeed..

put it this way...  he got more when he was on maxdsl ;D

Hi .
It works ok took about 10sec.
I'm a bit like Eric, out in the sticks.
I does not like the post code in lowercase letters, so no map with details on just the exchange.
I was surprised to see it said my DSL Max could go up to 4.2mb more like 2.2 to 3 if I'm lucky.
