while remaining relatively safe for humans
"relatively" worries me!

b*cat, whose qualifications are in science, purrs "I don't trust vermin." :D

The researchers were able to deliver about 1,900 watts with an efficiency of 40 to 95 percent.
That's quite an efficiency range, plus the fact to do so its presumably using 1,900w regardless of if you actually are using any of that at the receiver or not.
The last thing we should be doing is thinking of more ways to waste power.
Its like everyone wants to be the next Elon Musk, spending ludicrous amounts of money on projects that can never be financially viable.

My Daughter would love that set up 'In its center was a copper tube between the floor and the ceiling' As she attends 'Pole Exercise' class's every week, it would charge her phone up at the same time.

It's rather unfortunate that the preconceived term "Mickey Mouse Technology" is hardly inspiring.
I also wonder about cost v output when it comes to requiring an aluminium encased room & amount of copper.
-
Not to mention it would be rather pointless to charge your phone in a room that is effectively a Faraday cage, so no WiFi (unless they put an AP in the room) or mobile reception.
A lot of technology we deemed impractical was not about if it can be done or not, its about practicality and if its economically viable or not.

So, Bacofoil hats may become popular. ;)
