Title: Difficulty ordering a restart of ceased BT line
Post by: vic0239 on January 27, 2022, 04:50:29 PM
I recently ported my landline number to a VoIP provider with the intention of restarting the ceased line as an insurance against total loss of voice communications as witnessed during Storm Arwen when both broadband and mobile signal were down. The port was successful, my line now has a dial tone, has been renumbered and is incapable if making or receiving calls (other than 17070). The issue is that I can not place an order to restart the line as the checker states that there is no such stopped line at my address.

Can anyone advise how long before OR update their records or even if it might be a possibility that the line might be disconnected without ever being marked as stopped?

Hi, I got lost when you state it's been renumbered and you can dial 17070.

That doesn't sound like a ceased line.

When your DSL died, would a generator have restored matters or was it not like that?

Just quoting what I was told when I ordered the VoIP port, that the line would be “ceased”. I’m assuming the line is now in a “stopped” state.

I’m on FTTP Weaver. During the storm it went down as did mobile reception. I have considered a generator in the past, but thought it might be too antisocial, I have close neighbours. I have two hefty UPSs which are capable of keeping me online for ~2 hours, but useless in this case.

Of course, you said, I’m forgetting.

Who ceased it, I could run a line availability check for you if you want me to, it should state stopped line and an access line id.

If it has dial tone, is renumbered, and can only call 17070, then it's a stopped line.

Many thanks for the info.

No stopped lines, no working lines, no available pairs?

DP is 140
It doesn't make sense to me as clearly one of the conditions must be true. The BT checker reports "There is no data available for this number." so there's a mismatch somewhere on their system.

When you dial 17070 do you get a number repeated back to you?

Openreach confirm there is a Gold Address key, it's not on the copper withdrawal scheme etc.

The system has returned the following messages:

ERROR - OR2175: 'DN is not the main number. The most common cause of this Openreach error message is that there is a CSS order on the line which has activities overdue for closure. This will need to be followed up with the Openreach SMC or via your Line Providers Service Centre.'

I much appreciate your looking into this and finding the issue with the line, many thanks indeed. I'll take it up with the SP who placed the original order who can perhaps get the order properly closed.

Hope it helped, spent most of my morning in a basement watching Openreach screw up two pstn installs.

The new provider will submit an ORDI Robot request to correct the details at my address. Maybe then….. :fingers:

At least it was during daylight hours, during my career in IT I spend many hours during the night in the basements of empty office buildings scaring myself witless at the slightest creak or groan of some hidden machinery!  ;D

I've been to sites like that near Westminster, massive sub exchanges for a single building, full of cobwebs and just feels cold.
