Title: Treadmill
Post by: Weaver on January 25, 2022, 11:22:33 AM
After "broadband", "superfast", then what "ultrafast", what is it going to be next for 1-10 Gbps? "Hyperfast"? Which prefix is better than which? :)

Various levels of 'Warp'? That should keep us going for a few more years.

I do wish they would no away with that nonsense all together and just call it what it is.  Other countries dont seem to have these silly marketing hypes.   In Aus they use adsl/fttc/vdsl. etc     Most of the population in the UK wouldnt have a clue what "adsl" despite it being how their broadband has been delivered going back years. :/
About half the population don't even seem to know the difference between Internet, broadband and wifi.   It really bugs the heck out of me when people say wifi when they mean Internet or vice versa.  >:(

It's laughable that Virgins  "Super duper Fibre-optic Cable Broadband" was used to describe 2Mbps....  and was directly to blame for the start of this ridiculous mess.

Agreed.

I get annoyed with ISP's / CP's calling their plastic give-away CPEs (cost approx. £1-37 per unit, in bulk) a "router". Call it plastic tat and be done with it. (See my reference to a "superdooperrouter (https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,26233.msg440159.html#msg440159)" . . . correction sooperdooperrooter . . . and the bomb-squad!)

Not so long ago, when a nearby area was getting FTTC, our local rag featured a headline something along the lines of '[xxxx Village] soon to see faster WiFi'.   ::) :(

We''ll have reached the end of the need-for-speed road, when I see it marketed as 'Black Sheep's wife when she spots food, fast' ...... the current laws of physics have this documented as the pinnacle.

I pray neither ever see this thread or it will be rebranded as "as fast as the Mrs whacks you round the back of the head when she spots this thread".  :P

He he he - I'm also pretty confident she will never, ever clap eyes on this, ergo the bravery being shown here.  ;)

I feel the same way as Kitz. There was a Dr Who episode about <er, some baddies who were in the wi-fi- errm or something> and I think Dr Who would really know what the Internet was.

I always assume Mrs Weaver will see this, but then she never does.
