Title: Router for a 330/50 FTTP connection
Post by: meritez on November 15, 2021, 08:19:25 PM
So while I wait for Openreach to confirm installation, requested 17th, already moved to 26th November.

Would a Mikrotik RB750gr3 be suitable to handle a pppoe connection at these speeds, or shall I go for a hAP ac2?

A quick Googling suggests it can probably handle that much without the NAT acceleration but might be right at the edge of the limit, faster with it but that takes out most of the firewall rules which IMO kinda defeats the point of having a good router.  Although I can't find mention of PPPoE.

Of course if you don't already have it, might consider getting something confirmed to do full Gigabit just in case you decide to upgrade later.

I might have to get the RB5009 then

I use a hEX s (https://mikrotik.com/product/hex_s) on my 900/900 Mbps connection and it performs admirably. I've been able to push it quite hard - see this post (https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,25281.msg437193.html#msg437193) reply #22.

But you will need four of them . . . to fill the 1U rack space!  :D

thank you, that's almost identical to the hEX / rb750gr3 in specification but includes PoE out and a SFP port.

Why stop at four?

Ordered a hAP ac2, should cope admirably.
