There's also a macOS update today which I believe is related to the same issue.

Second update I've done on the M1 Mac Mini, second update that reboots to a black screen.

Weird thing is, I checked top and all software was running, just no video output.

I honestly don't know how people can still claim MacOS is better than Windows, had to tweak so much stuff on the Mac to stop glitches, slow network share performance, stop the screensaver randomly taking over the screen, etc.

I experienced a similar issue in the past, not during updates, but after the computer woke from sleep. My recollections are a little vague now, but the issue was somehow due to my monitor being connected via my OWC Thunderbolt dock (displayport connection). The system was operational, just nothing on the display. I resorted to setting up a VNC server so as I could get in to do the reboot! Once I attached the monitor directly to the Mini the issue disappeared.

Do I hear the haunting melancholic refrain of violins?  :P  ;D

Well to be fair, we need a rather larger sample than one to assess the relative merits/demerits of MacOS vs Windows.

There's plenty of reports of these problems if you Google them, thus how I solved them.  As well as the still a problem issue of 4K monitors plugged in over HDMI constantly losing signal/flickering on the M1 Mac Mini.

Perhaps my biggest annoyance is file requesters.  If you try to highlight a lot of files it gets slower and slower until its a slideshow, absolutely baffling.  That's not an issue I've seen on Windows or Linux.
