Hi,
Does anyone have a process for upgrading Windows 10 to a specific build version, for example 20H2? I have a number of Windows 10 builds, and all seem to be different versions of which only two are on the long term releases, one is 1909 and on 20H2. The others are all on the shorter term Spring releases of 1803, 1903, 2004. I can't seem to find a way to force any of them to go to anything except the latest spring release 21H1.
I have ISOs for all the releases.

Perhaps the Windows Media Creation tool allows you to do that.

Thanks. As far as I can see the Media Creation Tool only gives you the current version. I'm basing that on the fact it doesn't ask what version, and the fact the utility is called "MediaCreationTool21H1.exe". Unhelpfully the ISO it creates is just called "Windows.iso" Maybe I need to find a 20H2 version of that tool
Possibly a bit of a red herring, but I think my 20H2 ISO may be corrupt, I'm going to grab a fresh download and test it again. As it is, if I mount the ISO and run setup it comes up with a bunch of errors about DLLs and similar, preceded by an error saying it can't run on this version of Windows (or similar). If I boot off it then it won't upgrade existing Windows 10, only offers the option for wipe and clean install.

Mount the ISO on the machine you want to upgrade and run setup. Then you can do an in-place upgrade to the version of the ISO. Or am I misunderstand your requirement?

If you already have the ISOs of the versions you want, I'm confused what you are asking. Boot the ISO, do an install or upgrade from it, job done?

You could also use Rufus https://rufus.ie/en/
If you are looking to download a specific Windows ISO again, you can also do that from within the program.
FWIW 21H1 isnt that different from 2004

The naming convention of the windows versions is confusing.
There used to be a website I knew that provided older versions of software.
I've heard that M$ are going to be forcing people who haven't upgraded to the current version to do so.
I'm currently on 2004.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-home-and-pro shows the dates that different versions of Windows 10 are supported until - which is near when they start forcing upgrades to a more recent version

The Autumn releases are supposed to be the long term versions, with Spring as intermediate. As indicated by the fact that "upgrading" to the next Spring release actually gives an earlier end of support date ..

So given that each feature release breaks stuff, or installs more junk, it makes sense to stick to the mainstream cycle when an update is actually needed.

I've had a little play around and as far as I can tell the Media Creation Tool always downloads the latest. For example running "MediaCreationTool20H2.exe" still creates a 21H1 ISO.
Mount the ISO on the machine you want to upgrade and run setup. Then you can do an in-place upgrade to the version of the ISO.
That was the first thing I tried, if you run setup.exe from an existing Windows 10 install, it gives a bunch of errors. If you boot from it then you can do a clean install, or an upgrade of an earlier OS but will not install as an upgrade to Windows 10.
I think the first thing to try is to re-download the ISO. I'm getting them direct from Microsoft, so should be OK but I can't remember whether the download stalled and restarted or gave any other glitch.

Normally I only mount a run the iso from within Windows. It runs a scan first, detailing any issues you may encounter, including virus scan. This is also way faster than usb method.
Get rid of any non microsoft AV, etc. I also turn off Hyper V, as this stops it as well (on my system! others may have diff results!)

That's the education and Enterprise versions lifecycle you are looking at, Home and Pro still all have 18 month support dates for all versions.

These instances are all running Enterprise.
Turned out it was a corrupt ISO, downloading a fresh copy I can run setup.exe straight from the mounted ISO to apply the service release.
