Title: VDSL2 17a or VDSL2 35b ?
Post by: paul on June 25, 2021, 01:17:18 PM
Dear All,

Hope my very first post finds you very well!

My provider gives me the option - for an extra charge - to upgrage to the 35b super vectoring profile.
Currently, my DSL connection utilizes the 17a profile and my downstream connection speed is aproxamately 70 Mbps.

Do you believe, based on the attached spectrum of my line, that 35b could give an actual boost to the connection speed?

I am noticing that near the 17Mhz frequencies the singal is already week... Could the 35b profile, which will extend the usable frequency range up to the 35Mhz frequency, provide any usable frequencies? Is it true that the 35b profile increases the line voltage? Will this voltage increase provide a stronger signal up to the 35Mhz frequncy?

Eagerly awaiting your thoughs,
Paul

PS: The Distance of my modem / router (Fritz 7590) from the DLSAM is approxiamtely 500m.

It will provide a noticeable benefit imo.

I notice you did go through with it and improved speeds to 84/22.

Out of curiosity, what was the upstream when you were on 17a?

Hello! Hope you are doing great! Using the 17a profile my upstream was capped at 11Mbps by the provider. I would also like to point out that Fritz 7590 achieves higher sync speeds (almost 12Mbps higher on the receive direction) than the 7582 which I am currently using but it suffers from several disconnections throughout the day.

Thanks.  Its fascinating how different telcos provision this stuff.

Was curious because I used to have a fully uncapped 17a service.

I believe 35b is supposed to "theoretically" max out at 150/50, but actual live services tend to cap speeds due to how the band plans work, especially when running concurrent DSL services in the same area.

Deutsche Telekom sell 250/50 over 35b and I assume they aren't maxing the specifications out with that package.

Yeah thinking back now it might be 300/50.

Interesting, Wikipedia says otherwise.

But then we all know "theoretical" often falls short of real-world application, especially given the stupidly short line length you'd need for full sync rate.
