Anyone know why I am unable to access the BT DSL chcecker it has been saying not available when you enter details now for 2 days.
Stuart
-
I get the same, had this a little while ago, not sure when but perhaps they are updating it, or someone has over loaded it ;)
-
Working for me although
https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/
redirects to the new url
https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL
-
Well I just tried again and it says "We are sorry but the checker is unavailable at the moment. Please try later" as a red text message when you enter your details + capture code and hit enter! I should have been clear the page comes up OK but then this happens!
Stuart
-
It worked OK for me a couple of minutes ago.
-
There's a thread on ThinkBroadband, it works for some people but has failed for several days for others, not sure how BT can explain that. ???
-
It works for me.
I wonder if it might be a cache issue?
See if you get the same result with a different browser, or clear cookies for that site on your current browser.
-
Works fine here too, although I only tried the address side not Number
-
Working for me on my phone with WiFi off.

The dsl checker are a pant hit and a miss. I never bother use this site. I use other one (but can't share here due to btw data protected)

I'm still getting exactly this, tried at work, and at home, and on my phone.
If I turn my phones wi-fi off it works, if I fire up a virtual machine and connect through a VPN, it works.
Is it possible they are blocking IP addresses which have used the service a little too much, not that I do many checks these days, especially from work?
-
I have checked for Ronski
Same here with wifi at my house We are sorry but the checker is unavailable at the moment. Please try again later.
But no problem using 4G EE mobile without wifi.
Seem u're not the only one!

What about the link you provided before?
http://www.dslcheckercat.bt.com/pls/adsl/ADSLChecker.TelephoneNumberOutput?TelNo=<number>&AEA=Y
-
Alex - These still working but these might be taken off by BTw if many peoples using this
-
The address checker works for me, but the telephone checker doesn't recognise my number as a BT line - ever since we changed to digital voice for some reason.
-
If there is no POTS service on the line, it wont have a number assigned to it. I guess you'd need the service ID.
-
Seems they are now actively blocking IP addresses/ranges.
As someone else said, is it possible they are blocking IP addresses which have used the service a little too much (and why block an ISP)
Yup they have confirmed they are. We have had to get a number of our IPs added to their whitelists this week via our BTW account manager.
Their blocks seem pretty wide too from what we can see, taking out complete IP ranges.
Link to above quote (https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/btsupplier/t/4686892-re-bt-wholesale-checker-hit-and-miss.html).
This course of action seems rather backwards, lets stop customers looking up what's available :wall: Fair enough to temporarily ban IP addresses that are abusing the system, but this does not appear temporary.
-
I'm pretty sure I have changed IP fairly recently as I had a few DLM interventions recently and I dont always get the same IP, so either the previous user was banned or they have another way to tell perhaps buy post code since it always works up to the point you enter the post code and hit enter >:(

Mine not working from this site, look BTw have blocked my IP address. The same goes to this site https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL (not working) and this site https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/ultrafast-full-fibre-broadband#fibrechecker (not working)
I be shocked if BTW and Openreach will blocked public IP address on permanently if all true.
A formal complaints to ofcom is my next action! They have NO RIGHTS to do this to public. I don't care if BTW or Openreach have the rights to blocked public IP Address!

What gives you the impression they have any obligation to give you access to THEIR database?
I'd wager at most they have to provide it to ISPs for them to lookup what product you can order, but beyond that its a courtesy.
If people are checking on it too often and using it to make everyones lives miserable, I can totally understand why they might decide to restrict it.
-
Stop this now, Max. Read again what Alex said a couple of messages ago. This is very bad behaviour and it will get you into trouble again. You have no right to that information, and bypassing the BTW and Openreach protective measures will do nobody any good. Stop now!

If they believe it is being abused they have every right to block IP addresses to preserve their service.
Max, you have a good working service tied to a 12 month contract so have no reason to be continually checking the Openreach availability sites. Please, for the sake of your own health, stop doing this.
:)

Well, I got email from BTw as they are now blocked my IP Address for abused it.

Well I can't say I'm surprised you were warned. It is their service and they are entitled to do just what they have done.
Stuart
-
Yeah they say any future check please contact your ISP if you need further enquired for your broadband availability checker.
-
You've been warned many times Max, so this outcome is no surprise. Don't let it happen again.
-
It's probably no bad thing, because keep checking it was unproductive and was only fuelling your obsession with speeds.
You've been told numerous times how it works and it is only an estimate based on your existing speeds and/or neighbouring lines. Once you had your g.fast connection there should have been absolutely no need to check it again. Now that you are blocked I can only hope it will be better for your mental health by not looking at estimated figures on a daily basis, that actually serves no purpose once the line is connected and without faults.
Although they say contact your ISP, I sincerely hope that you are not doing that either.
There will come a point when your ISP will become hacked off with requests for availability or GEA tests. A one-man-band ISP such as your current service provider is likely to get fed up much sooner than the likes of PN who have many staff.. and will get annoyed at how time consuming this process is.
From what I have seen so far, your current ISP has been quite accommodating and exceedingly fair over the g.fast upgrade. Don't push your luck Max, and ruin any good will. Everyone reaches a point when patience wears thin and I'd hate you to find yourself in a situation like the boy who cried wolf, who ends up getting no help when it is actually needed.
-
Oh well, not to worry! I still very happy with G.fast very lucky to have it stable 221/30 (no issues) as for btw checker, gea test I don't need it anymore. Knowing G.fast will be fine. :)
I do think it will do me good that BTw has blocked it for my own good.
Anyway I enjoying play around with Windows 11 ;D
-
Thats good to hear. Glad that you have found something else to play with and actually use the connection.

How, exactly, could BT Wholesale get your email address?
-
I'll throw a guess that he emailed them asking why he was blocked and they simply replied.
-
The fact is loads of us are blocked, both here at work and at home I'm blocked Aquiss was also blocked but have been put on a white list - see thread on TBB.
It does seem rather extreme that so many have been blocked, I expect a good few were just checking for FTTP availability.
-
Yes and no. The public shouldn't have had access to begin with: it's supposed to be for wholesale partners.
Seems strange doing it after all this time though I guess they were bored of a few, on dynamic IPs, generating loads of queries needlessly.
-
Probably a good idea to check you aren't blocking your wholesale partners first though? ;)
Its especially a peculiar time as some people from said wholesale partners will still be working from home, which is presumably where Aquiss got caught out.
-
Should put it behind login really, though whether that would complicate API checks I'm not sure.
Anyway by the by. Doesn't seem to be a clear pattern to it all - I can still access fine.
-
Fortunately so can I from two public IP’s.
-
Aquiss were blocked on the CP version of the checker that is behind a login.
-
I can access BTw checker from my mobile but not on PC (still blocked to static ip address)
-
Do you need to access it ?
-
Do you need to access it ?
That's the day when BTw blocked it. I checked via my mobile it wasn't blocked that's was it. Just last time I checked.
