BB,
Not sure what is wrong with your system.
This is the link:
http://www.avolites.org.uk/movies/Mencanmultitask.asf
and it opens directly to Windows Media Player.

I had the eactly the same problem as BB1..  do you by anychance have winamp set as your default player?

At first I thought it was perhaps a codec that I hadnt got - so I updated - to no avail.
.. and I realised I could open it direct in MediaPlayer using the url - it just wouldnt open from the forum link.

So me thinks must be a file association problem.. so I set the file type association from
Folder Options >
File Types >
ASF to always open with Windows Media Player.

Still wouldnt work.

-----
Solution

Opened winamp (my default player)

Options >
Preferences >
File Types

Uncheck both
Restore file associations at winamp startup
Enable winamp agent.

Seems that winamp must have been trying to play the file but couldnt... and the above 2 settings ensure that winamp is the default player for ASF files... despite me trying to change it... because everytime I did winamp took it back again.

Whichever link I click on it brings up installation for Windows Media Player 9.  Is it safe to install this and also do I NEED it?   :-\

LOL - excellent vid

Why not Windows Media Player 11 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1D224714-E238-4E45-8668-5166114010CA&displaylang=en)? ;D

@Kitz, for Winamp - you should have been able to deselect ASF from the list of file types without having to uncheck the agent / restore file types checkboxes... not tried it though, so maybe it doesn't work. ASF is near the bottom of the list though, god knows why it's not in alphabetical order :(

quite simply, I've tried 11, but much prefer 10.

Same here.
But I suppose it's what you get used to.

For one thing I don't like the library function, it seems with WMP11 you don't get the option to disable it, not like you can with 10.
