Title: Strange things
Post by: g3uiss on January 25, 2021, 09:36:31 AM
My VDSL line has been stable for some months, low ES ( as has my ADSL). Last night at around 1:30 I had a resync, another at 1:58 and no PPP until around. 4:30. It looks from the stats that the line was in sync during this time but erratic SNRM. When I noticed at around 0800 my DS Sync was very high and US sync very low and I was now interleaved. Another resync at 8.30 approximately and syncs returned to normal but of course interleave remains. Line is ok now and the loss of fast path not a big issue. I did check the quiet line test but that was fine. Assuming that something happened in the night and to such an extent DLM took action but seems very quick ?

Very odd. I wonder if some cabinet based, mechanical, work took place and there were physical disturbances to the cable pairs?  :-\

Possible I suppose but nothing list as engineer work on Zen. However such local work may not be. I’ve since discovered that Zen had an authentication issue last night, hence once the PPP dropped until it was resolved the PPP wouldn’t be established. Not often two things happen at once but seems logical explanation.

I was more surprised at the DLM adding interleave so quickly.

I'm on Zen and had similar issues at the same time as you. I've had a couple of years of fault-free VDSL service (well, the odd restart every few months) but have now had 63 incidents since Jan 11th.

Thanks that's in a way reassuring

did you power off the modem/router during that time with line issues?

In case you are wondering I don't think its likely those are Zen related as I've had zero issues.

My Zen PPP is showing 7 days uptime on the router which concurs with the suggestion above that it was an authentication issue so only triggered IF your session happened to drop during the problem.

Yes of course, but as I had a resync it lost the PPP, and due the authentication didn't re establish the PPP until 0455, coinciding with the Zen clear fault time. In response to@mofa2020 no power off etc...I was asleep !

Well I suspect that there was a power cut around 8am (at least) based on this line Total time = 1 hours 3 min 15 sec that time should be indicating the modem/router uptime with or without sync. (as I believe) then this line Since Link time = 1 hours 2 min 53 sec which is the time passed since the last sync. and the time in between both lines is what it takes the line to sync.

could be a power issue caused DLM to take action? like high error counts or something like that or multiple power cuts during this period..

Not a power cut here as everything protected by a UPS.

Another PPP loss from 0100-0300 last night any other Zen users experience this ?

My Zen VDSL-2 FTTC has been rock steady for 17 days, have only been with Zen since 15th Dec and fully to expectation had regular DLM intervention to get back to 3dB SNRM after migration plus my manual re-synch's with staged modem clamping to achieve DS G.Inp re-tx low profile.

Only unusal occurance I have noted with Zen with my particular bridged setup is after some of the more recent  DLM re-synch's the PPP session appears not to be re-established on the router (red internet LED), un-plugging/re-connecting the ethernet cable from modem to router immediately re-establishes PPP session.
Had exactly the same modem/router setup with Plusnet and never observed this behavour.

Not complaining, just an observation, still 100% happy with Zen to date and so glad to escape from Plusnet.
