Occasionally getting an error when loading the forum, or it loads very slowly. I'm using BT Broadband and 1.1.1.1 DNS.
-
Quite recently I have notice some sluggishness when attempting to access the forum. I, too, use Cloudflare's public DNS server (1.1.1.1).
-
Over the last few days I've also noticed unusal and more frequent slow downs on the site for example changing from "show unread posts since last visit" to particular posts and back again, can take up to 30 secs and certainly occurs more frequently than previous.
I'am using Win 10 Home desktop PC and Firefox browser.
-
It just lagged here, I hit f12 to see whats going on and just a quite long time to first byte (9 seconds).
-
I am seeing the same.
-
I already raised this a while back, its been doing this for months for me.
-
Apparently the site was moved over to new hardware in the past few days. Unfortunately I wasn't warned that this was happening.
I had seen a SS mail saying they would be updating many of their servers over the Dec/Jan period but from the email it sounded like it was a standard update of the operating system and no exact date given.
It's only after investigation of some other oddities, that I've found out about the move to new hardware, and that an error had been made with DNS.
Hopefully it should now have been corrected, but there may also be some problem with email not being sent too.
I'm therefore guessing that I'm now on one of their standard racks which will in turn I no longer have the bespoke hardware. Sorry guys not that much that I can do about it. I did have a really good web host but since the takeover Im just a tiny fish in a very big pond now. I did spend a considerable amount of time some months ago looking at other hosting, but my options are limited as there are certain requirements I need such as fully managed, cpanel & uk based.etc. I'm not really in a position anyhow to be wanting to spend time transferring everything elsewhere.

Thanks for looking into it so quickly Kitz. Hope you’re staying safe, long time no talk.

Thanks for the update Kitz, that explains the issues I had the other day.

Unfortunately I am still having issues.
-
Is there anything in particular. ie such as during posting, after posting or is it just general browsing?

eta
I've just optimised the forum db.
I've also been running some queries on the db which I expect to cause some slowness, but it seems to be ok.
-
unable to find website.
forum loaded after so many refreshes

Hi
If it helps kitz, please remove ns3.vidahost.com from Nameservers as it is shown but not used, and anyone who uses ns3 will have issues connecting
Check your forum.kitz.co.uk DNS TTL and set to 3600 (should speed up stale DNS cache)
I hope that helps a little
Many thanks
John
-
Thanks John
default TTL is 3,600 seconds and ns 3 removed.
-

I was experiencing some delays when posting or editing a post.
It didn't happen every time though.
I haven't noticed any issues today. Seems nice and snappy.
Quick edit: posted immediately.
-
Lagging for me today again, but like I said its been doing this randomly for months.
-
not had another 9 second delay, but now consistently over 1 second to respond to clicks.

I still see slow response and just occasionally it fails to find the site which looks like a DNS issue but that now happens rarely and is strange because it has happened when changing pages not on first access! It took around 10 seconds to open this page to enter this update.
Anyway as has already been said the site is actually available and that's the most important thing because it is so useful folks will live with this while it gets resolved. Sounds like your host needs a kick somewhere it hurts ;)

Slow here again.
-
Incredibly slow here right now and failed to load the site at all when I first tried to go on.
-
I cant seem to see anything wrong but have raised this with support. Will let you guys know.
-
Might be onto something.
Will update when I've done some further investigation.
-
Just to say that trying to get on the site just now it took 3 tried before it connected, the first two gave the usual message from the browser about not being able to find the site!

Same here.
-
Last night and this morning, site access and navigation back to "previous normal" for me.
-
Have not had any issues this morning so far....
Stuart
-
Just so you guys know, I am working on this.
It may be slightly better since last night but there are a few more things to do yet.
-
Funnily enough its been slower for me today.
-
I am finding the forum much snappier today.
-
Does seem better now.
-
I’ve just had the problem for the first time. Took three goes for it to load

I did get a DNS error earlier but that has nothing to do with the server itself, not sure why that would happen.
-
The site has been running pretty good for me over the last few days, even with others posting issues in this thread I hadn't noticed issues.
Not so great today.
I also just got an error trying to post, something along the lines of "SMF could not connect to database".
-
Cheers. Just noticed it myself :(
I still have a couple of things to look into but was hoping it was mostly sorted.
-
Do you have something like fail2ban to lock out people trying to connect too quickly? Though knowing my luck, I'd get locked out. :p

Kitz.co.uk has been down for me since 21:30 til I changed my DNS from 1.1.1.1 to the default TTB DNS servers. All other sites were fine and DNS servers brought Kitz up (Google DNS). Very strange.
>nslookup kitz.co.uk 1.1.1.1
Server: one.one.one.one
Address: 1.1.1.1
*** one.one.one.one can't find kitz.co.uk: Server failed
-
Indeed, I use DNS over TLS to Cloudflare and the forum has randomly failed DNS lookups, though I've only seen it happen a couple of times over the last week.
-
Not sure whats happening with 1.1.1.1 as I use it :-\
I've put something else in place today that I'm hoping should put the brake on bingbot that very kindly crawled 1.4m forum pages day before yesterday and decided that the rss feed was 271.8k site maps as it appears to have got itself in a loop on the rss feed for some obscure reason.
TBH I think there may still be some performance issues since the hardware change as previously the old server on occasion saw more hits than I got the other nite after the bing mega crawl.
I'm afraid I can't do anything else for now - I'd love to remove and sort tapatalk and remove it to do a clean install, but its integrated itself in the core code and removing it is not straight forward. I've spent an awful lot of time on this over the past few days. I've been in hospital for the majority of the past 3 months and was supposedly home to get a few things done and try to regain strength before surgery this week. I burnt out yesterday and made myself ill - I am already extremely weak and have lost over 4 stone in as many months. I was hardly overweight to begin with. :/
So I'm signing off now leaving you in the capable hands or Eric and Alan to keep you guys in order ;)
Wishing you all the best for a happy and peaceful christmas despite the strange circumstances this year.
-
I wonder if it's a 1.1.1.1 DNS problem, I've changed to 8.8.8.8 (Google) and will see if it reoccurs

I'm still using 1.1.1.1 on my browser with fallback to TTB DNS servers so if 1.1.1.1 does fail my browser should pickup the TTB DNS.

Get well soon kitz :)
