Title: Cable Question
Post by: dambuilder on November 30, 2020, 09:32:29 AM
Quick question and hopefully not too stupid;
I've just moved house and have lost the cable that goes from the BT Master Socket (5C Mk4) to the modem. Am I right in thinking that the socket on the BT faceplate is RJ11 and the socket in the modem is RJ45.?
Also is there any difference in quality of cable between different makes ie any recommendations?

The master socket will accept RJ45 or RJ11 whereas the modem will likely be RJ11 only.
I don't have any specific recommendations but generally uses the shortest one I have that reaches.

I'd recommend these guys - https://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/rj11-to-rj45-patch-leads/

for the kit they supply and the service.

The Mk4 filter will accept an RJ11, but RJ45 is a better fit - no wobble.

 Indeed, an RJ-11 to RJ-45 is the best fit as 4candles says. And I use the shortest one I can get away with.

The Tandy/ADSL Nation ones that I have used in the past are beautiful quality but are RJ-11 to RJ-11 so not as good a fit at the NTE5 end. Go with 4candles’ recommendation.

I didn't know the MK4 could accept an RJ45. The more you know, I suppose. :D

All SSFPs have done so, from the very first version.
