Title: Janet and the Bull

A really old photo I discovered, showing the field at the back of the house before we introduced the donkeys into it:

So you owned a bull before Gilbert and George joined your menagerie?

No, it’s the village bull, shared by all the crofters (we are not crofters, don’t have any land). He comes to the village every while and stays for a good long time until he has had a chance to mate with all the cows and then he moves on to a different area completely. In some parts they would swap bulls too. In the song Na Trì Néill Calma (I hope I remember the title correctly) three men all called Niall row in a boat from Uibhist out to Hiort (St Kilda) in a boat with a bull, forty miles out to the west, and swap the bull for one there and bring the other one back. (I can’t remember which direction the journey began in.) The title translates as The Three Strong/Brave Nialls.

Ah, I misunderstood. Thank you for the clarification.
