Title: Whats attached to this PCP?
Post by: gt94sss2 on September 07, 2020, 01:47:49 AM
Does anyone know what piece of OR kit is on top of this PCP?

I've never seen this before..

Interesting.

If you are willing to disclose the location, then perhaps somebody with access to the various records might be able to see what's what.  :-\

It will be an expansion pod for tie cables to accommodate the pod on the left, which I would guess is a VDSL Sidepod.

The right hand side of the cabinet looks like it would stick out beyond the fence and would be obstructive to the path.

I've seen such a top before (well similar but not identical) on a PCP with a brick wall right up against the PCP on 1 side and a vented pod on the other side.

The lack of vents certainly suggests there's no electronics inside.

They are called 'Top boxes' and house the splitter blocks.

Thank you.  :)

Many thanks for the information. For those interested it's PCP4 on the Wandsworth exchange at https://maps.app.goo.gl/gWidt3Y4yyQ9ZtHn9

Saw one at Greenwich when I was being all touristy.

Looks like it was their only option with that fence

This is the kind of situation the top box I saw was in.
It was a brick wall rather than a fence though.
Simple fix for a common problem I reckon.
There must be a fair few PCP's in tight spaces.

Have these "top boxes" been around long BS?

Hi j0hn

Not really, pal .... May 2019 is probably the earliest I have vision of them entering our street furniture items.

Does the top of the PCP have to be drilled or are there 'hidden' conduit blanks there. ?

Same for a 'side pod' ?

I've never seen one in the real world, but looking at our ISIS document around the installation of these top-boxes, there's a bit more to the process than the side-pod apertures, such as removing the existing PCP 'roof', drilling and jigging out the new top box, secure, seal  and earth bond, then replacing roof (that is in a nutshell - i'm not going through the entire procedure) :-) .
