Yes I've seen it before. It happens all the time as more data is fed into the checker.

You really need to find better ways to spend your time my man.

Good for you, Max.  :)  That will give you something else do, see, experience, etc, and, hopefully, divert your thoughts from Internet access and provisioned access lines speeds.

I also had a modem/router addiction, bought 6 VDSL2 combos ranging from ISP ones to TP&D-LINK, Linksys and were about to get a Draytek one chasing different chipsets manufacturers hoping for better max./sync. speeds and unlocked telnet/ssh access so I tweak the line for more speeds.. thousands of money gone yet what I actually use and satisfying my needs is only ONE and the rest are in boxes...  >:D xDSL services are evil if it controls mind whatever the way it uses....

I don't know what you mean, I only own 1x ECI, 2x HG612, 2x HomeHub 5A, 2x VMG3925-B10B, 1x VMG1312-B10A. (not counting the two routers I got from Zen)

Totally not an addiction.  :-[

I can't believe I have to wait another 2 years for FTTP.  :'(

It is normal in UK, like most Kitzens use 2 box solution either pure modem or in bridge mode, also from what I know that some chipsets perform better depending on DSLAM chipset, line distance, ....etc.

Thanks will do as this lockdown caused me nut and crazy. Mental health issues get worse and need to get out of the house

On the contrary, only the really hard-core technical type will go for a two box solution.  Most people have Talk Talk, Super Hubs and Sky boxes.

I wonder if FTTP will go the same way though, as its a bit more problematic as you don't want end users unplugging the fibre willy nilly when dusting, etc.

2x HG612, 1x Zyxel 8324-b10a  1x HomeHub5 (OpenWrt), 2x SmartHub v1, 1x SmartHub v2 + Disc, 1x Draytek 2862ac, 2x Cisco 887VA... and that's just VDSL kit... perfectly normal

I fully expect FTTP to remain a 2 box solution.

The ONT is wall mounted and fibre cable clipped to the wall/skirtings.
You should never need to unplug the fibre cable.

With an ISP switch you just change the router over to whatever hub that ISP providers.

For the more technical who use their own router a simple change of credentials is all that's required.

Due to the shared nature of PON networks OpenReach will probably want to keep control of what ONT's authenticate with their OLT's so I can't see ISP supplied ONT/Router combos ever being provided.

Presumably (for domestic) it will forever be PPPoE on an Ethernet presentation from the optical converter.

I hope so, I think its about time we started to see the ethernet port on the ONT as the demarcation point.  It simplifies everything, we no longer need so many different kinds of router, just plain ethernet.  Although sadly I can't see cable going the same way.
