Firstly I'm with Zen and on FTTP. I did a couple of Traceroute queries using my ASUS RT-AC88U network tools as follows. Whilst I don't pretend to know much about it, it would seem that the first address I see is London. This I find strange as I live in Glasgow. Any thoughts or is this just the way Zen works? Should the first hop be closer? And if closer what would it improve?

The first hop is closer, you just don't see it on a traceroute. Also wouldn't improve anything. Basically traceroute can only show certain hops in the chain, and the first one of those you can see is Zen's kit in London.
Your ping is fine given you're in Glasgow. You're good. :)

Cheers.

You're welcome.
Due to my having a line on BT I can actually see the hop in the exchange that both my Zen and my BT services go through, however I can only see it on the BT one due to how it's all set up.

They both went through 172.16.13.185, they have to as there's literally nowhere else for them to go, but it was wrapped up in other things in the Zen traceroute so doesn't show.
