Title: FTTP confusion
Post by: divybc on July 29, 2020, 08:54:19 AM
Hey all,

So I've been a long term VM customer always keeping tabs on BTs fttp progress in my area, if any.

4 months ago I got an email telling me they are building it to the street, so I emailed the fibre enquries team who confirmed its planned for September 2020.

Low and behold I check the OR site and the BT DSL checker and it says WBC FTTP available already!

I'm a little confused over this as my telegraph pole doesnt have any fibre pods on it, nor does it give any hints this is indeed the case.

Is there an easier way to find out if the checker is giving false info? I have contacted BT who said they are willing to accept an order. This has only added to the confusion.

Any advice appreciated!

Tyia.

PS the check does confirm its on OH pole, so no UG.

What is the actual wording on the checker that says it's available? WBC FTTP or WBC FTTP on Demand?  There is a big difference.

See images below:

OpenReach site says it's live and BT will accept an FTTP order.
Must be WBC FTTP, BT don't sell FTTPoD.
The BTw checker only mentions OH feed if it's WBC FTTP also.

To the OP, sometimes the infrastructure is installed on poles further along, or even in chambers at the base of the pole.
It's not always visible.

Go ahead and order.

If the checker says it is OH feed then it would be WBC FTTP available. FTTP on demand says "No FTTP available"

I have seen an error on the checker before at my previous address where the checker said FTTP available at the next house to mine but it wasn't, the line came from the same DP as mine past my house. There was FTTP a couple of hundred yards up the road.

Is there nothing to suggest fibre has been installed on the poles nearby? Such as CBT blocks. See the picture in this thread

Hey all, to the first person to reply, its definetly not fttpod.

I had a look on that thread and whilst its possible that there is a pole further along I'm just not seeing, the one that goes to my house hasnt changed in ints entirety since I've been her for forever.

Its in my neighbours back garden, so I've had a right good look at it.

As advised, I have placed the order and BT FTTP team and OR confirmed its all greenlight and go for the 4th of August...

I guess I'll see then?

Order went smooth. All installed :) Turns out my area was the first in the fibre cities rollout!

So where did the fibre come from? Was it from the pole in the neighbour's garden or somewhere else? Good to hear you had a successful installation. :)

It came from the pole hidden in the trees behind my garden lol. I just never seen it, it was really well hidden :P

And no problem @burakkucat!
