Thanks to tubaman and burakkucat for the tip about the BT Home Hub 3 PSU. I’ve just bought a couple from eBay for £7.99 each as I will need spares for my ZyXEL VMG 1312-B10A modems.
Not wishing to hijack the thread, should perhaps consider splitting this off -
Q1: Does anyone know if ZyXEL kit has common format PSUs physically and electrically?
Q2: I would like a recommendation for some PSU which is compatible with that for a ZyXEL NWA3560-N WAP.

A1: I have no idea but it would be sensible if that were the case.
A2: Check the existing PSU for the voltage and (maximum) current that it can supply. Check the polarity at the barrel-plug; don't assume the inner is +ve and the outer sleeve is -ve. Check the length of the barrel-plug plug. Check the diameter of the barrel-plug. This last step is the most difficult . . . Check the diameter of the central pin of the socket.
With regards to the last step. Some PSUs have barrel-plugs whose inner connection is sprung and can adapt to take a socket's central pin ranging from 2.1 mm to 2.5 mm in diameter.

I'm pretty sure that there is no common ground with Zyxel PSUs, my 8324 and 8924 had different PSU outputs, as far as I remember the voltage was the same but current differed.

i should perhaps have split out current capacity from the ‘commonality’ thing, as some devices require more current.
