I've just got a video cam for the PC and never used one b/4.
My question is........
Does Windows 10 have its own way of communicating with other cam users, without getting Skype?
I'm not against skype or anything, just wondered. ;D

You'll need to use an app of some sort to communicate using the camera. Skype works fine and is built in to Windows 10. Another very popular app is Zoom, which is good too. Whichever you use the person/people at the other end will need the same app installed. As Skype and Zoom are free then this isn't a problem.

Thank you tubaman.
It's as I thought then..........Skype, or whatever is built into Win 10.
so I'll check out how it works. ;)

It just occurred to me that I'll need a microphone right?

I'll need a microphone right?
Not necessarily - don't most cams designed for web use have an integral mic these days?
-
Oh right. haven't used it yet::)
-
You can also use your webcam via your web browser - for instance with https://meet.google.com/

Interesting!!!
I see the camera working with my ugly face in it::)
Does one have to join..... do I still require a microphone?
I'm not sure how to use it.

To test your microphone, go to "Settings", then "System", you should then go to "Sounds", in the list you will see "Input" Do'es it show your webcam model? below you should see "Test Microphone", clap yell talk :fingers: the grey bar should move left to right

There are two versions of Skype! built in version has no background scenes, but this one https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/download-skype-for-desktop/ has.
Both can be installed at the same time :).
The "Desktop" version is dark blue/white "S" icon.
Suitable backgrounds are The Bodleian library in Oxford uni or your back garden..... ;)

Hi Parkdale.
I managed to get into Skype, pinned to the taskbar.
I tried registering to it but can't get by the verification page that requires a code sent to my email. I haven't got it yet lol.
I tried yesterday and today with no joy, and every time I click on the Skype icon it only brings up the verification page again.
I can't get back to start to try from scratch.
What a rigmarole. ???
