Hi all
Been a while since I've been on here. I'm back to seek advice, since my line speed has dropped again. I'm supposed to be on 80/20 VDSL with plusnet. My minimum guaranteed speed down is supposed to be 53Mbps. I'm still using my trusty ZyXEL VMG8924-B10A with tweaked firmware to allow 1508 MTU that I was recommended by @johnson on here when I posted previously. I've got an openreach engineer coming tomorrow but having had one out twice before when I had issues in 2018, I'm not too hopefully of a good resolution.
I'll chuck the xdsl stats below in case it helps. Let me know if there's anything I can do or any other information I can provide that will help you help me.
Thank you in advance.

Seeing that the DS Actual Net Data Rate is essentially equal to the DS Line Rate, with a SNRM of 6.3 dB, I suspect that cross-talk is responsible for your observed throughput speed degradation. :-\
-
Bother. I thought you might say that. Thank you for looking. I’ll post back this evening and let you know how I get on with the openreach engineer later.
-
You may get a reroute if one is available to try to reduce the crosstalk.
No one replied to my previous query on this but as you are below hand back it should be the standard attempted fix at least in my opinion.
This has its dangers you my end up on an even worse route but there is no other way.
-
Looks like you're right ktz392837. The OR engineer was really nice. He patched in at the green cabinet and only got 55Mbps. He has put me on a different pair between the green box and the huawei cab and now my line sync is 70 down and 20 up. Best I've seen it in a long time. I'm not seeing that reflected in my download speed though.

Great outcome on sync speed as you are on Huawai cabinet you may even get more speed if it reduces to 3db target.
I had terrible trouble with what best can be described as rubbish/lazy/overworked engineers but once I got someone who knew what he was doing & had time to do it I had a very similar outcome as you. Unfortunately it is gradually going down again and 1-2 years later I have lost 10-15% but no where near as bad as the handback threshold and I have hope of ginp/3db with being on eci in the future which will give me some sync back.
Perhaps your profile is stuck at the ISP it may sort itself out when it receives the acknowledgement of the job complete from OR (usually delayed or never) otherwise you may need to ask isp to sort it out at their end.
Not sure the best way of doing this with plusnet but someone else may post with what and where to say to get it sorted quickly.
-
Thanks again ktz392837. That was right on the money. I called Plusnet and spoke with a Holly who knew exactly what was up. The connection profile was stuck on 46Mbps. It's now set to 78Mbps. The update on my account says "Altered connection profile speed on the account as Static IP so on old system." Still pulling only ~43Mbps but she said it should pull through in an hour or so. I'll wait and see if it changes soon. On the up side, my line is still running and doesn't look like it's disconnected after 5 hours and 47 minutes.
-
>> Still pulling only ~43Mbps but she said it should pull through in an hour or so.
If you haven't already done so, you also need to establish a new PPP session to pick up the new profile.

Thank you again
I think you're right. The line has resynced slightly faster and the speed test is now showing 61.98 down and 17.53 up. Still not quite as fast as the line speed but I'm guessing at this point I need to stop messing and just let it settle down.

If she's changed it to 78Mpbs, then you should see the increase immediately after reconnecting.
62Mpbs still seems rather low even allowing for overheads. I think as it was a few days ago I'd be tempted to contact them again asking nicely if they could just check as you still havent seen much of an increase yet.
btw.. I notice on the recent stats you only have an SNRM of 5.4dB which means you've lost 0.9dB since the last sync somewhere. (default SNRM is 6.3dB) thus your current sync is artificially higher than it would be if you were to sync right now.
-
Stats have improved again. Line looks near perfect. Speed tests are worse right now ~53 down and ~11 up at 14:00. I suspect with everyone being at home and on lockdown that broadband speed is being impacted by everyone using it. I wonder what a 4am speed test would yield?
Plusnet haven't done anything more with the ticket as I suspect they've sent most staff home and I haven't chased it because at this point I don't think there is an inherant line or service issue besides overcrowding/contention which they can't do anything about.
