I got an email from the registrar DynaDot talking about a secret deal done between ICANN and Verisign whereby the price of .com registrations can keep going up and up. Does anyone know anything about it ? Can we stop it?

Absolutely bonkers, considering the cost to administer domains is likely going down.

Yes... Seems the .org sites are going to be the next cash cow for ex employees ...... of a well known internet company as well :-\ but I was trying to work out if it affects .org.uk domains.
