I wonder if this is one of the main reasons VM are opening up a company that specialises in FTTP connections.

I wonder if now they are part of Comcast it will make any difference in what they do commit long-term to.
Perhaps I am sceptical until it actually comes into fruition, as over the years Sky there have been several rumours as to them going to go into 'partnerships' with various other telcos.

VM aren't opening up anything, their parent company are.
There are advanced discussions with regards to partnerships. I'd look for announcements imminently.
