Hi,
I just connected a friends MT992 modem which is supplied with a G.Fast installation by some ISP's.
I wondered if it would sync with my standard (non G.Fast) VDSL2 line. It does.
It syncs about 4Mb lower than my Zyxel 8924 (76Mb instead of 80Mb).
However the good news is that it supports MTU 1500 (like the old and now retired BT HG612 did).
me@puter:~$ ping -c4 -M do -s 1472 1.1.1.1
PING 1.1.1.1 (1.1.1.1) 1472(1500) bytes of data.
1480 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=60 time=18.3 ms
1480 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=60 time=18.3 ms
1480 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=60 time=18.3 ms
1480 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=4 ttl=60 time=18.2 ms
--- 1.1.1.1 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 received, 0% packet loss, time 3004ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 18.161/18.278/18.337/0.069 ms

Thank you for performing the experiment and documenting the positive results. :)
As the devices are still not that common (and, thus, not that easily obtainable) it was not obvious if they would "drop back" to frequency division duplex mode from the time division duplex mode.

UPDATE:
I have now been gifted the MT992 by my friend as they no longer use G.Fast.
Unfortunately since I initially tested the device, it seems to have had a firmware update that prevents its use with VDSL2.
:(

Do you still have the MT992, would you be willing to open it?
