As anyone on here heard of it, or maybe tried it?
I was listening to a podcast yesterday and it was mentioned by one of the people. They said its abit like a new version of the scanners people would use. But this is a dongle that you plug in to the computer that is attached to an ariel that you can put outside the window and then you're able to list in on radio frequencies.
It's the first time I've heard of this. As anyone else known about this before, or if you've tried it what did you think?

Simply, it is a migration of functionality from some of the rather specialised hardware traditionally used for radios, into software. Possible thanks to the evolution of processors fast enough to allow signal manipulation, in software, at radio frequencies. Or at least, at a useful intermediate frequency after conversion with minimal hardware.
It’s nothing especially to do with scanners. It might well be used by scanners, but has many other applications too.
Not new (1980s), just getting rapidly better and more practical.
