Title: Lightning/thunder caused interleaved connection taking ages to be removed?
Post by: ktz392837 on August 14, 2019, 06:33:05 PM
I have a generally stable line on my ECI cab.  Usually average the maximum of 5-10 ES an hour but 14d ago with the lightning/thunder storms I had a few hours where ES were in the 500-1000 per hour meaning I went over the 2880 per day allowance and DLM intervened with INP=3 and Depth=1200ish.

it has happened in the past and usually it sorts itself out after 3 or 7days but not this time.

I have had one resync in the past 14days (a misdetection according to the reason 3days ago and ES/hour are averaging 1 or 2 (today 0.1).

Should I just leave it to its own devices or should I intervene by capping the line?

Does anyone know if you can be capped with interleave forced on so interleave is on even if your line doesn't need it?

I do not believe i am speed capped according to the sync speed being 61535.

Thanks

Unless there were multiple resyncs it's unlikely the line was banded/capped.

A manual cap should certainly help remove interleaving quicker.

Yesterday I had 3 ES and today sitting at 1 so far.  Should I just leave it alone and see if it sorts itself out?

Not 100% sure on capping as will it not update the last sync speed on the FTTC checker and make it look like my line is worse than what it is?

Also could the line be interleaved capped (is that is a thing) rather than speed capped?

Thanks

I've capped my line at 25Mb for months at a time and it's never affected the dsl checker estimates.
It shows the maximum sync observed but shouldn't affect the estimates themselves.

My estimates have gone up quite a bit since I took FTTC.

At 3 ES/day I would think that should be low enough.
Single figures a day is usually enough.

If it's still stuck on Interleaving after 8-11 days I'd apply a small cap.

I've never known Interleaving to be stuck completely.
I was stuck on Interleaving for about 9-12 months before reading about capping a line on these forums.
Interleaving was removed 2 days after applying a cap.

Interleave was removed last night.  The usual positive vibes that the act of posting to Kitz Forums has done the trick!

Took much longer than it usually does and unfortunately I lost my long uptime and have lost 10% of what I was synced at before the lightning and interleaving but at least it isn't interleaved anymore.

Averaging 2 ES so far since midnight so looking good assuming no more thunder/lightning.

Apart from me now noticing the attenuation changing by a few tenths of db up and down over long periods of time eg can have a few weeks of one figure then a few weeks with +0.1 or +0.2 then back to the original figure but I assume that is just normal variation although it is a bit weird.

Good news.

If I were to say that the values displayed are the calculated means of the sets of each individual value across the full bandwidth then, perhaps, it isn't that weird.
