Title: Zyxel XMG3927-B50A

Just connected to new VDSL2 router. The DSLstats with select Zyxel VMG8924-B10A with CLI command prefix: xdslctl but bottom of DSLstats say Modem uptime: Not available (?) but the DSL uptime is working. Did I put the right settings?

I try HG612 Modem stats but it won't work as I put modem type: ZyXel VMG8324-B10A with Telnet shell: sh - any advice how to get these working?

The modem uptime is obtained from the command cat /proc/uptime . If DSLstats reports it as not available, it means that the command is not recognised by the modem, or doesn't return a sensible result.

The Zyxel XMG3927-B50A seemingly is not able to work with HG612 Modem Stats. When you login to the router via telnet or SSH, it is already in Zyxel's own shell; therefore, "sh" does nothing. I do not know the scope of commands needed by HG612 Modem Stats, but Zyxel's shell has limited commands available and I do not know a way to access any utilities such as "cat".

To address the BQM for IPv4, you must enable PING on WAN under remote management at http://192.168.1.1/RemoteManagement (http://192.168.1.1/RemoteManagement) (or whichever IP addres you have it configured to).

what were the Billion stats prior to switching?

Interested in the difference in SNRM/attainable to see how the newer chipset performs on VDSL2.

Thanks I have now enabled PING on WAN under remote management let's hope it working now

Disappointed to hear that HG612 Modem Stats will not work (how odd) maybe someone will look into this and try to get fix next version.

I did notice that.

Billion SNR 8.5dB / 14.7dB 91889Kbps / 25289Kbps
Zyxel SNR 8.3dB / 16.5dB 90758Kbps / 23697Kbps

It's appear it reduced than Billion. But the power (dBmV) went from 0.6 (billion) to 2.1 (zyxel) on the upstream but downstream about the same at 12.5 but Line attenuation (dB) went up from 11.8 to 12.0 on the zyxel.

With 21 days on Billions upstream got a total of 1838 errored seconds and 3001 CRC errors but NONE on the downstream before switch over to new router, let see how new Zyxel will do in the next 21 days to compared Billions.

Pretty good router. The wifi are quite strong but I notice there is a bug on untick untick Keep 2.4G and 5G the same on the wireless setting but I manage to force to untick by F5 refresh the page and untick that box quickly before it went back to greyed out. :)

Wireless status:

WLAN 216 Mbps WLAN 1733 Mbps (have changed that now to this one: WLAN 450 Mbps WLAN 1733 Mbps)

RE the Wi-Fi "bug", IIRC you have to disable MESH in the Wi-Fi settings before you should be able to untick that setting. With a bit of browser magic, it's possible to bypass... but there is actually a way.

I hope you'll find the Wi-Fi performance more than satisfactory, especially compared to the 8800NL.

So you've decided to attempt to use 40MHz of the 2.4GHz spectrum. Why? It won't necessarily be any faster in a crowded environment.

Thanks for this. I have finally got everything working correctly now after powered down 30 minutes twice today because I get rid of China ugly plug and replaced with Genuine UK Plug (Netgear powerswitch)

New stats below as of now and leave it leave it alone for next 4 weeks to see how it go.

I left it with auto 20/40MHz on it

If that error rate remains consistent like that, it should be better than with the Billion. Only time will tell, but here's hoping :fingers: (though, not like it was bad before anyway).

Roughly half the amount of FEC's.

Not that simple to compare though as he may have had a very noisy day in that 21 days or different levels of FEC applied to each modem.

It's a very good Zyxel router (great wireless too) much better than Billion. The broadcom chipset are excellent too for FTTC (those who are on the Huawei cabinet) it also support G.fast too (those who live with a stone throw by the PCP cabinet)

I can vouch for this device. At least on G.fast, it has been incredibly stable; recently had a month of uninterrupted connection, until the power went out.

Sadly, I don't have a baseline to compare devices since so few G.fast devices floating around that:

• Can be easily obtained;
• Have accessible in-depth stats.

Certainly think it's worth it's cost if you have G.fast, or intend to upgrade to G.fast - or apparently even if you have VDSL.

Had a look see at the firmware notes and its a similar broadcom chipset to the VDSL2 Zyxels, same broadcom DSL kernel driver version as the VMG3925 - d26u. Uses a different phy blob, A2pvfbH043q vs A2pv6F039x6 in the 3925, but thats to be expected considering it can do G.fast I guess. Still on the same ancient 3.4.11 kernel.

Would be nice to see some pics of its insides, but a little googling hasnt revealed any to me.

Would also be nice to see FTTC comparisons with a VMG1312 or 8x24 rather than a billion, I have a suspicion they will be very similar.

Agreed.
Unless you're intending to get G.Fast I think it's overkill and expensive.
I wouldn't expect a higher sync from it on VDSL2 either.

My Zyxel VMG1312-B10A with its BCM63168 syncs higher than 2 different  units with BCM63138 chipsets that I've tried.
A Technicolor DGA4130 with the non G.Fast BCM63138 chipset and the Asus DSL-AC88U with G.Fast support.

You can test with:

You absolutely can. I have mine set to 1500 on Zen.

I'm on mobile at the moment and had to VNC to a Linux machine on the network to run the command. Can confirm that works and outputs like your example.

Seems a bit strange. Probably the sales person who responded isn't aware of that. I checked my previous emails and it looks like I emailed support instead of sales, but I would have thought both would have had known of its existence.

I'd throw the money at an Access Point instead personally if its only the WiFi that is bothering you.  I have no regrets getting the Ubiquiti nanoHD, even connecting to WiFi seems to be faster than any other device I've used.

The other problem is, just like the original HH6, my HH6XA router resets itself every 2 weeks without fail.
Unfortunately my BT TV (HUMAX 4K YouView) box doesn't always reconnect when this happens, causing lost timer recordings if I don't spot it.
Anyway, I've found a company in Germany (with an English language website!) who have stock & ship to the UK via FedEx (actually delivered by TNT in UK).
I've placed an order, delivery 3 - 5 days, cost with tax & shipping €176.87 (they offer to bill in £ but at a poor exchange rate), paid via PayPal in €, works out at £150.95 on my no fee visa card.
(A note about PayPal - if you've a no-fee credit card you can set it up on paypal to pay in the currency of the transaction, that way you don't pay in £ @ paypal's rubbish exchange rate!)

Ok, so the router arrived on time BUT the auto setup wizard didn't detect my BT G.Fast line, I guess the current firmware hasn't got a BT profile in it.
So a bit of manual tweaking was needed, when it couldn't connect to the internet it offered manual configuration.
The wizard was trying to use IPoE, so I changed it to PPPoE, then added the username: bthomehub@btinternet.com - password: bt
It now found the G.Fast line but it still wouldn't log into the BT server, at this point I skipped to the next setting, completed the wizard & exited.
Then in the main menu I went to Network Settings/Broadband, here I had to edit the VDSL settings:
VLAN was set to off, so I turned it on & entered 101 under the 802.1q setting (I didn't touch the 802.1p setting).
Clicked APPLY & after a short wait it logged in, then it worked fine.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the PSU comes with interchangeable plug-tops, & both UK & EU plug-tops were supplied.

Just a word of warning for BT customers, this unit doesn't support BT TV!
Even though it says it supports multicast it doesn't work with the BT subscription services.
My old VMG8924 suffered from the same problem, but the solution was to turn on concurrent WAN for the port the box was plugged to.
Unfortunately Zyxel, for some unfathomable reason, have decided not to provide the concurrent WAN option on this model.
I have informed Zyxel of the problem & they've passed it on to Taiwan, hopefully a new firmware will appear with a fix (but don't hold your breath!)

I have seen a few KCOM branded ones on eBay recently around the £30 mark. I was going to pick one up to help diagnose a fault but I just used the Openreach modem instead. Seems a good bargain anyway, even more so if you need a G.fast modem.

I have skimmed your other thread about the vulnerability and I think it is disappointing that the FTP server has not been updated with the latest firmware since I have been checking that every now and again for months, as that's where I would expect it to be. I have requested the firmware so hopefully I will get that very soon. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Thanks but Zyzel has advised me not to use this version VMG8825-V517ABNY6C0.zip for my router Zyxel XMG3927-B50A as the latest firmware with stable (not beta) are V517ABMT5C0

Looks like Zyxel may have tweaked the modem code slightly for G.Fast in the new firmware.
On my line everything on the stats is pretty much identical except ACTUAL INP.
The downstream remains the same (at 640 symbols) but upstream goes from 607 symbols with V5.13 to 676 symbols with V5.17

Looks like Zyxel may have tweaked the modem code slightly for G.Fast in the new firmware.
On my line everything on the stats is pretty much identical except ACTUAL INP.
The downstream remains the same (at 640 symbols) but upstream goes from 607 symbols with V5.13 to 676 symbols with V5.17

Tweaked for better or worse?

No idea, my line has always been stable & I get full capped speed, perhaps someone who doesn't get the max. speed has noticed a difference?
