Title: Strange Issue with ZyXEL VMG3925-B10B [Solution Found]
Post by: dorzb on July 17, 2019, 12:09:04 PM
Dear all,
I've been using my vmg3925-b10b for a while and it's reliable in general.
However, every couple of weeks it will stop working. A description of the issue. The internet will just (completely randomly, without apparent trigger) stop working completely. When I check, the router will still have an IP and the "Internet" light will still be flashing green (indicating active internet connection) on the front panel. But I won't be able to access the internet.
Every time when this issue happened the router was very hot. And a reboot couldn't fix the issue, I usually had to replace it with a BT HH6 to get the internet back.
The firmware is up to date.
Is it a faulty router?

If a reboot doesn't fix it but allowing it to cool down and restarting it then does, then I would say it is faulty.
 :(

Any chance it has been hacked and loaded with cryptomining software? It doesn't explain all your symptoms, but could certainly make it hot.  :-\

I don't even know my router is capable of doing this... How do I check it?

oh no... bought it from ebay so I guess there must be no warranty for it by now.

Cryptomining on a router? Would take a thousand years to be worth the effort of infecting it.

VMG3925s run HOT, they have heat sinks all over the inside that other routers with the same chipset do not.

Give it a vacuum and make sure it isnt near a radiator and is in free air.
