Title: Totally hacked off with DLM!
Post by: broadstairs on June 20, 2019, 08:06:54 AM
I was under the obviously mistaken impression that DLM had an awareness of a "wide area event" such as would be obvious to anyone not in a coma that happened in the previous 24 hours. However this is not the case as DLM hit me last night despite the horrendous thunderstorm we all had here in the SE corner of the UK.

Yet again this to me proves that DLM is not fit for purpose!!

DLM is supposed to be "wide area event" aware - at least that was my understanding too.
Perhaps it can't work out widespread errors that are all a bit different to each other (as opposed to, for example, power outages where multiple lines will be going up and down at the same time).
Hopefully it will relent within a few days when it works out that all is well again.

Yup, same boat here.

2 resyncs in the last 48 hours, first to 5db target and then 6db from 4 originally.

1000s of errored seconds as the storm passed over.

Last time I went from 4 to 5 it took months to go back.

....

That is interesting, as the last time my line 'had a wobbly' (due to a faulty modem (https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,22714.0.html)) it took about 10 days to start recovering from it.
Why is DLM so inconsistant (or is it just misunderstood ::)).

DLM has refused now for about 3 or maybe 4 years to remove either my cap or interleaving, even BTOR cannot explain the cap. Only way is to reduce my connection speed to around 35mbps from the 60mbps cap level.

Totally fed up with DLM!!

Perhap we start to make a new petition online to force Openreach to turn off DLM for good. I agree it totally unfit for purpose.

I had a 24 hour period of close to full whack on my downstream (80 megs) after the storms had caused my line to drop and resync.  :yay: Unfortunately, the snr did go from 6db to 1.6db with the corresponding through-the-roof increase in error seconds which DLM "rectified" in the early hours of the next morning...

You know many countries/networks that have no DLM simply apply heavy Interleaving to all lines.

You don't like DLM taking small steps to correct your line.
No DLM would mean no XdB profiles, no fastpath, possibly no G.INP (DLM determines what modems support G.INP).

One issue is that DLM does not take small steps to correct my line, second is we are on ECI cabinets. Forme it's useless!

Forecasters say severe thunderstorms all next week from Sunday last through to next Thursday. Difficult to tell which area are getting very bad thunderstorms.

Thinking have to be careful with DLM with modem during the storms next week
