Title: Optical drive fault?
Post by: bob.gas on May 30, 2019, 12:29:46 PM
I am trying to download my Adobe Light-room onto my PC (Tower).
unfortunately I can't get the CD to run

I have set auto run, but still no joy. ???

Is there a way to load it other than "auto run"?
I never had this problem when on windows 7, so can't figure this one out on 10.  :-[
Any help would be appreciated please.

Copy the contents of the CD to your H/Drive then run setup from there, quite common problem with Adobe s/w :-\

Have you checked with another CD/DVD that your system is able to access (read) it? Such a test would help by checking for any basic hardware error.

Sorry for the late reply.

I did try a couple of CD's & DVD's.
one DVD started automatically, but the rest didn't.
I put one CD into the tray and went to "this PC" in control panel which showed my drive, I click on that and a sign came up saying....
"please put a disk into the drive" etc   ???

Some drives can be fussy with some disc's, do you have another drive you can try in another machine?

What about downloading the software directly from Adobe if they have that option?

No I didn't try on another machine, as only got this one.

And don't think I can download from the web (not sure though) as I have paid for Lightroom5, and have a serial number to activate it ::)
Would I still be able to activate it  if downloaded on line?

Thank you for your input. ;)

I can't find an official source either, found these, but they all link back to a page where the oldest version is Lightroom 6 and I doubt your key will work on that.

https://forums.adobe.com/message/9973971#9973971

Found plenty of dubious sites with it though.

Do you know anybody else who could transfer it onto a USB drive?

That's a good idea, I can ask my friend to try it to a USB stick.
That never occurred to me

USB cd/dvd/blu-ray don't cost much these days.

That's what I have for this computer as it doesn't have its own optical drive. I just plug in the usb and it installs anything I need.

The cheapest cd/dvd drive on Amazon looks to be £21.99

Ha, would you believe.
I'm trying to download my Adobe Elements 12 now, having the same problem.
But cannot find it on the web.
So guess I'll have to try the memory stick way :)

thank you John.
I went through the procedure and got it downloaded, unfortunately it doesn't recognise the Key numbers
I assume it's because the key i have is for my Elements 12 only, and the download was for the latest elements, I guess?
I couldn't find a download for E 12, unless I need to go to spec savers. :-[
