Title: IE7 and telnet
Post by: kitz on June 20, 2008, 05:30:46 PM
Whilst I'm in "remember mode".

Quite often on the site we may advise users how to access certain information from their router using telnet and provide a clickable link such as telnet://192.168.1.254.

However microsoft "no longer supports Telnet" in IE7 and has disabled the telnet feature

Telnet--The Telnet protocol handler is no longer supported in Internet Explorer 7.

However this can be overruled in the registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_DISABLE_TELNET_PROTOCOL

and setting the iexplore.exe dword to 00000000

For those that dont like messing in the registry then Ive attached a small reg key that will do this for you.

As usual the normal warnings apply about the registry - dont mess and make a backup of the registry before doing anything.  The regkey file is provided as is.. and the site takes no responsibility if you muck up your system.

See below to download the zipped reg key
