Has anyone else come across the Comtrend VR3030?
TalkTalk Business utilize it for their Ethernet over FTTC service: https://www.spitfire.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Ethernet-Circuit-Information.pdf
IDNET offer it with their online gaming package: https://gaming.idnet.uk/reviews/comtrend-vr-3030.php
Lastly it has passed the Openreach MCT thing: https://kitz.co.uk/routers/MCT.htm
I won mine on ebay for 99p plus £4.50 shipping, it syncs 0.3mb less than the Zyxel VMG1312-B10A with that new dsl driver that @johnson bundled in that modified firmware.
Still looking for firmware, and comtrend has not responded to my email, but it seems to work really well

So cracked it open, it's a BCM63168 chipset.

How configurable is the unit? :-\
Being supplied by an ISP/CP, there is a possibility that the firmware has been modified to "lock down" the device.

The interface is similar to a Billion 7700n R2, pretty configurable, I'm starting to think the Broadcom SDK gives this basic ui interface.
I did hit a stale session bug last week, so I have ripped it out and put my trusty zyxel b10a back in

I see that there is an eBay seller (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COMTREND-VR-3030/113650933931) with a few available, described as "new". I checked with the seller and they confirmed that the units have a sticker on the underside (attached, below) which references TalkTalk Business' "Ethernet over Fibre To The Cabinet" (EoFTTC) service and the TalkTalk Business telephone number.

That's a good find, the TIS stands for Tiscali, and that EoFTTC number is an actual TTB account number.
Did the seller advise on the Firmware version?

So it looks like the VR3030 and the VR3031u are based on the same sourcecode.
The VR3032u has sourcecode available here: https://github.com/PepeTrend/pepetrend
currently reading through it to see if the vr3030 or vr3031u are mentioned
-
Could not see anything on github, however ive messaged them on facebook and by email again
See what happens...

The GPL sourcecode for the vr3031u is here: https://www.comtrend.com/gplcddl.html
As comtrend state on facebook that the vr3030 and the vr3031 share the same firmware: https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Technical-Bulletin--New-Software-Release-for-the-VR-3030---VR-3031u.html?soid=1106396448324&aid=LKpxauFxsQM&fbclid=IwAR1YsotsGGbf4vTrJquv-zZ0SRrcHiMc9I_uTPr_9F1G8ABCIISDedPIJWw
I should be able to build firmware for the vr3030 using the vr3031u sources.
found a vr3031u firmware here: https://www.comtrend.com/br/links/41$sndbr.htm

Well I got a reply back:
Roy,
You will have to reach out to your internet service provider for any questions or firmware requests regarding this product. Comtrend is not allowed to provide support for end users whom are customers of service providers, it’s possible that making changes to your modem will knock you off your providers secure network.
Figured they would say something like that,vr3031 has wifi so dont know if that would be a stumbling point as to building a firmware, last time I tried with a DSL-88U,the source was incomplete, but let me know how you get on and if there is anything i can do to help....
Regards
Roy
