Title: What would you consider too much upload traffic?
Post by: xreyuk on January 25, 2019, 08:36:08 PM
Hi All

I have been monitoring the amount of traffic I'm uploading/downloading through my router and have a question.

I have nothing actively uploading (no backups etc) apart from maybe the odd small excel file I edit and upload to dropbox.

I have a PC running a miner for cryptocurrencies which uploads basic information, a Nest thermostat, and a NAS which runs a DNS server, and plex. Other than that it's just general YouTube/Netflix/Web browsing. I also have the odd iCloud backup.

In 9 days I have downloaded 46GB traffic and uploaded 17.5GB traffic. To me this upload seems a bit high, seeing as I'm not actively uploading anything of note.

Do you think this is high and can you recommend anyway of finding what it is?

i would be pointing the finger at your icloud backup.
i assume this is on your phone? and it will be syncing all the content from your phone to the cloud.. photos, videos etc.
considering 1 photo can be a few MBs these days, it can fair mount up.
maybe not to 17GB worth, but it's a start.
