Hi folks,
Sky has upgraded my line from 40/10 to 80/20 (and without any surcharge), and after about 27 hours I can see it's not performing at the best (I know there is crosstalk, etc.).
I am still running a Vigor 2760 and I was thinking after 7-10 days to try my VMG1312-B10A and see if the speed would improve: do you think it's worth the trouble ?
Tia.
-
ECI cabinet I assume?
In what way is it not performing as you would like?
The gap between attainable and sync is expected as the line is interleaved.
You could lower the target SNRM with the DrayTek to get a higher sync.
The Zyxel will likely sync a Mb or 2 higher at the default 6dB but you can't lower this.
-
Yes, ECI cabinet. Well, I was hoping to get something in the range of 70Mb+...
And from what you're saying, I could hope to get a speed increase only if the line will move from interleave to fast, right?
-
You would get roughly 73Mb on fastpath.
You could get another 5-10Mb while still interleaved by setting a lower target SNRM on the Draytek.
That would likely increase errors so would probably prevent the line going to Fastpath.
You could also increase the SNRM target for a few days which would lower your sync, but it usually nudges DLM to move the line to fastpath.
At that point you change the SNRM back and get the roughly 73Mb i mentioned above.
You could then try lowering the SNRM target and could even get a full 80Mb. You won't be able to tell if the line would hold fastpath at those speeds until you try it.
-
Okey dokey, many thanks.
-
So, this is my line situation after a week ago I decided to swap a Vigor 2760 for a VMG8924-B10A.
I've attached the Draytek stats just before I disconnected it and here the stats from the ZyXEL:

It seems connection has slightly improved, is that right?
-
I'd be very happy with a line that good - mine runs at approx 45/7, and that's with G.INP and 3dB on a Huawei cabinet.
:)
-
Oh yes, of course I can't complain  But I was thinking if I would cap the line I might be lucky and get the interleave removed :fingers:
Do you think it's feasible ?
Is this the right command:xdslctl configure --maxDataRate 40000 10000 100000
And to remove the cap, do I just reboot the rooter or I have to issue another command ?
-
Not with those ES figures, no.
2353 ES in 26 hours is over 100 times more than what DLM will be looking for to remove interleaving.
You have 391 ES in 24 hours so that's just under 2000 ES in a 2 hour period.
Was DslStats running?
If you can get the line to keep at 390'ish over 24 hours then a cap (maybe in the 40-45Mb region) may remove interleaving.
If you continue to have the huge burst of ES then there's no chance of interleaving being removed.
edit: those timers are baffling me.

Ahh I suspected so, never mind then... Not running dslstats as my knowledge of Raspberry PI is close to 0
Do you think that the stats the modem gave me are not so realistic ?
-
Can you post a recent output of "adsl info --stats"
-
Ah I was using a different command...

Much better stats and the timers seem to match.
No need to cap the upstream. Upstream ES are counted independent of the downstream ES.
xdslctl configure --maxDataRate 50000 20000 100000
You could cap lower to ensure interleaving is removed but 50Mb should be sufficient.
-
Many thanks and a reboot of the rooter will suffice to remove the cap, am I right ?
Lastly, for the lucky ones connected to an ECI cab, is there a way to get the SNR down to 3dB ?
-
A reboot of the modem will remove the cap yes.
You can also remove the cap by sending the command
xdslctl configure --maxDataRate 80000 20000 100000
Lastly, for the lucky ones connected to an ECI cab, is there a way to get the SNR down to 3dB ?
Only with the DrayTek device I'm afraid.
Broadcom chipsets won't do this, only Lantiq.
-
So, applied the cap and let's if it will work... :fingers:
-
Too bad... after just a week I capped the line I had a re-sync, no idea why, but the cap is still there:
