Title: Google browser: tools
Post by: renluop on December 20, 2018, 01:15:28 PM
Google annoys me, as I can't see a way to choose permanent UK only searches by default:it will always revert to search all. Now the option in tools is gone too, replaced by a verbatim option. What ever that means in a browser, I can't imagine!

Why the dickens have they done that, and what benefit do we get from the change? I'm wondering if it may be time to choose a new search medium, assuming there is one as comprehensive.

i believe the option is no longer required as a google search will now do a search based on your location by default, thus rendering that option defunct.

I'll check that out, if hopefully I can find the route to the option. Thanks.

As comprehensive? None of the others come close. I enjoy duckduckgo, its results are good but if you feel they are lacking or want to search a specific service the bangs (!) system is great. So for a google search "!g search-term" or "!guk search-term" for country specific. There are so many more, eg "!yt search-term" for youtube etc etc.

My default bookmark for google is https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?cr=countryUK&complete=0 (https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?cr=countryUK&complete=0) which still seems to work to search mostly UK stuff (apart from promoted sites that is).
