The Zayo Group has announced that over the next 12 months they intend to upgrade and expand their existing long haul fibre optic ring network in the UK, which will improve its capacity, coverage and should provide access to the country’s latest subsea cable crossings in both the Irish and North Seas.

In simple terms, Zayo intend to increase the overall fibre count on their 500km ring and add two new unique routes (the routes will also be available for wavelengths) in order to create the desired coast-to-coast connectivity. The upgrade should also complement their on-going work around Greater London, which involves the construction of a new fibre route that runs from Hatfield in Hertfordshire to Stratford in East London.

“Our continued expansion underscores our commitment to Europe and provides opportunity for customers who can benefit from our fibre network, data centre footprint and extensive connectivity across our global network,” said Annette Murphy, Managing Director of Zayo Europe.
